Finally, commentaries from the Girls!,

This is the first Golden Girls DVD set that has audio commentaries by the actresses! It would be too much to ask for all of them to come together at a recording studio (Estelle Getty being totally out of the picture due to Alzheimers), but we get Bea Arthur, Betty White and Rue McClanahan each doing two episode commentaries by themselves. Betty contributed the most info, of the show and her character, while Rue gave us lots of tidbits about the guest stars.This season has some of the most funny episodes like the Sperm Bank and Blanche's sister's book, but it also has some of the more serious ones like Blanche's illegitimate son, Rose's HIV scare, and pregnant teenager. So it's not as side splitting as some of the previous sets, but a classic none the less.

I have every season of the G.G.'s, and this one rocks better than the others (although they are all great). I used to get off the bus after school and watch this every day, and it brings back such good memories of being a kid again and looking forward to getting older... I love the episodes when Dorothy and Sophia enter the mother daughter contest, Blanche's bookwriting idea, then staying up for days and seeing things, Rose's husband's pension running out, Blanche's sister as an author and so many more! The comic genius of Susan Harris and the rest of the writers really shines through in this one!

This and the other seasons of the Golden girls lets one again enjoy the very best of American TV ( writing & acting). What a blesseed change from the garbage the U.S. TV broardcasts now . . . the so called reality shows for example.
