We own the 1962 edition of the Good Housekeeping Cookbook and refer to it often. This 125th anniversary edition reminds us of how much dining trends have changed in the last 40 or so years, with much more space devoted to fresh rather than canned foods and lighter, healthier fare. This volume has easy to read typeface, beautiful color photographs, and every category a home cook could want, from pastas and soups to breads and desserts. This edition is destined to become a classic and would certainly make a welcome gift for the new bride as well as the seasoned chef. We especially like that there is a good mix of older classic recipes with more contemporary ones, as well as a good spread of easy to more challenging to prepare suggestions.

I just got this cookbook and I must say it is very impressing ! I have only prepared one recipe (banana hotcakes) and they were a hit ! This cookbook is very complete, separated into food sections, such fruits, vegetables, chicken, etc. For example in the fruit section it gives a description of many different kinds of fruits and a picture for the fruit. Many fruits are not so common and hard to find in other cookbooks. Also, there are many recipes for Mexican cuisine, which is not very common to find in other cookbooks. This is much more than I expected from this book !

This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever owned. I love the way it is laid out, the fantastic color photographs, the layout of the recipe, and the wonderful recipe's I have tried so far. The only problem is this book of 752 pages and over 1200 recipes is HEAVY. The book also has much helpful information on varies areas of cooking and food. This cookbook is very complete, separated into food sections, such fruits, vegetables, chicken, breads, Mexican, etc. There are also "Tips" throughout the book that are helpful and save time for the cook.

This is not a "Chef" cookbook but a great back-to-basics cookbook with recipes that take ingredients that most keep in their kitchen. I am so tired of getting cookbooks that have so many ODD meals that my family really doesn't want with ingredients that are hard to find in many areas.
This book surpassed my expectation which don't happen often. I cannot stress how great this book is. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and it would make a great wedding gift.
