4.0 out of 5 stars The Good Life, Sep 2 2010
I have been a John Brady fan for a while now, but had somehow missed this novel when it came out first. I found his earlier novels to be based on more political themes, with plots centered on the Troubles and other political themes and less on street crime, which the latest novels tend to focus on, and this book represents an important transition. It also introduces my favourite character aside from Minogue himself, Tommy Malone. Each of the Minogue novels can be read independently of course, but they make more sense if read in order. Brady has a real knack for bringing "I could have been a contender" self-delusional petty criminals to life in his books and this book contains several gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evocative Irish Mystery, May 6 2007
By Jon W. Florey - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Good Life (Paperback)
Brady's Irish voice sings throughout this emotionally charged mystery. He paints a picture of Irish society at every level and draws his characters so deftly you think about them long after you've read this book. Every character feels real: the police, the villains, the victims and the witnesses but Minogue is especially well drawn.
