Product Description

From Amazon.com

You may be surprised to discover that the director of the Lethal Weapon movies and scary horror flick The Omen, Richard Donner, also produced and directed this classic children's adventure (which, by the way, was written by Donner's screen-wizard friend Steven Spielberg). Then again you may not. The Goonies, like Donner's other movies, is the same story of good versus evil. It has its share of bad guys (the Fratelli brothers and their villainous mother), reluctant-hero good guys (the Walsh bothers and their gang of friends), and lots of corny one-liners. Like in an old-fashioned Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew plot, the Goonies need to solve a problem: a corrupt corporate developer has bought out their neighborhood and plans to flatten all their homes. Luckily, the beloved gang stumbles on a treasure map. In the hopes of finding the treasure to buy back their houses, the Goonies embark on their quest through underground passages, aboard pirate ships, and behind waterfalls. This swashbuckling and rollicking ride was also a great breeding ground for a couple of child actors who went on to enjoy numerous successes in adulthood: Sean Astin (Rudy, Encino Man) and Martha Plimpton (Pecker, 200 Cigarettes). --Samantha Allen Storey

5.0 out of 5 stars Buried Treasure, April 14 2004
By
This review is from: The Goonies (Widescreen) (DVD)
I love this movie. It is a child hood favorite of mine. It's the kind of adventure that every kid want's to be doing with their best friends, someday during Summer Vacation.
It's even more fun watching it when your older because you can't help but think ' Sean Astin. Mike, Sean Astin Sam .;'
The movie is so much fun to watch on it's own. But watch it with commentary. When it says ' Commentary with hidden treasures', there not kidding.
Not only do you get to listin about behind the scenes but all ( if not most ) of the actors and actresses can be seen during the commentary.
Even Donner the director is there and it's quiet wonderful and fun to watch.
The Goonies is a good funny family film to watch. The acting is kind of goofy but totally worth watching though.
Seriously though every DVD in the world should be made like this, or something like this.
You get so much entertainment on one DVD. It's totally worth watching and purchasing. You wont regret it at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Goonies R Good Enough For Me!, Nov 9 2001
This review is from: Goonies, the (VHS Tape)
This 1985 classic is a very nostalgic film for me. It makes me think fondly of my childhood. I was about 6 or so when this movie came out. It still amazes me to this day. Director Richard Donner(The Omen, Superman, Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3, 4), with a story by Steven Spielberg, delivers a big, splashy, swashbuckling tale that will have kids screaming with delight and adults feeling like kids themselves. A bunch of friends learn that their houses are being torn down. Desperate to find a way to raise money to keep their house, they try to think of everything they can. Mikey(Sean Astin) finds an old treasure map in his attic. He, along with big brother and some friends, go on a mad cap adventure underground to find the lost treasure of One Eyed Willie. It's one dangerous booby trap after another. The movie is a spectacle of sheer entertainment. One great scene after another. But, not all is great. The gang have a criminal family The Tortelleli's on their trail. The movie is rich with visuals and action and comedy. The comedy mostly coming from a character named 'Chunk'. Corey Feldman is obnoxiously amusing in this film. He's never been as entertaining again. Josh Brolin is on hand as Astin's big brother. Great character actors Anne Ramsey, Joe Pantoliano, and Robert Davi are The Tortelli's. The end climax scene is a fun scene to behold. This is a rollercoaster ride that never stops....nor would you want it too. A classic!.

2.0 out of 5 stars This DVD COULD be ALOT better........, Aug 21 2001
This review is from: The Goonies (Widescreen) (DVD)
The Goonies is such an excellent movie and all but the DVD was a disappointment. The picture and sound is fantastic but it's just that not all the deleted scenes are here. There are only 4 deleted scenes and they are the Stop'N Snack, the Data binocular part, the octopus, and the scene where Chunk and Sloth come to the cave with spikes. We are still missing the Steph and Mouth plank scene, the leech/oath scene, the scene where Mikey and Mouth save Data as he slips on the log, and the scene where Data blows up. The second disappointing this is that the deleted scenes that are on the DVD aren't even in the movie. They are sperate which is bad cause when you view them it starts off just from there so it's hard to know what part of the movie they originally were in.
