Living in....,
This review is from: The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
So what did I know? I thought I knew a lot about rock and music; I didn't know that this too short lived group were responsible for Heart's success with 'What About Love'. I like both versions, but Toronto has something to it; unpolished, raw, powerful and indicative of their struggles and triumps. Beautiful.Fantastic record that will make all of us in the 80's nod our heads towards each other and say silently; "yeahhh i KNOW that tune!"....any one......pick one....I would have liked to see more songs on there of course, especially from Get It On Credit. Once again, thankfully, NO LIVE TRACKS that ruin the album. Maybe some people like that, but having all studio recorded songs except your fave track on a record is like ordering a pepperoni pizza, getting it and having someone take them off and replace them with broccoli. And yes, I live in Toronto..the city stinks in my opinion, but this group does not!

Good compilation by Toronto,
By G. Richards "econ1955" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This album, now available on a remastered CD, is the compilation that was released after the breakup of the band. It includes tracks from all four of their studio releases, plus some unreleased tracks. One of these, What About Love, later became a major hit by Heart, so it is interesting to hear the original version. Named for their adoptive city, Toronto was a hard rock band that achieved some success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. While they were known primarily in Canada, lead singer Holly Woods came from the United States, and second guitarist Sharon Alton came from England. Because of their two female members, they were often likened to Heart, but their style was harder, more like Pat Benatar or Lita Ford. This band was extremely underrated, and their music still holds up nicely. It consists of very accessible songs, with good melodic ideas, nice guitar riffs and engaging hooks. As is often the case, the deep cuts from the band's albums were at least as good as the hit singles, if not better. So listeners who enjoy the greatest hits package may also like the band's other albums, which are also available as CD remasters. The best of these were Get It On Credit, and Head On.

Scandal, Pat Benatar, The Motels, Heart. If you love the 80s-chicks-with-attitude these female artists and female fronted bands delivered, you'll love Toronto. This collection spans their 1979-1984 albums, with a variety of styles from a more new wave vibe to a pop rock sound to an even harder rock feel. Fantastic vocals, melodies and harmonies make Toronto one of the undiscovered treasures of the 80s.If you already have all Toronto's albums, then don't hesitate to pick up this collection for the tracks "Andrea" and "Me Generation", which are not on any of their albums. These are top quality Toronto tracks. Both of them have found a place in my 80s playlist on my iPod. These tracks and the rest could easily have been featured in any early 80s teen flick. Track list: 1. Your Daddy Don't Know 2. Lookin' For Trouble 3. Enough Is Enough 4. Start Tellin' The Truth 5. Even The Score 6. Andrea 7. Ready To Make Up 8. All I Need 9. Silver Screen 10. Girls Night Out 11. Head On 12. Me Generation 13. What About Love 14. Your Daddy Don't Know 15. Start Tellin' The Truth 16. When Can I See You Again? |
