Book Description

Sep 24 2008
63 percent of us have sensitive skin, mainly due to cosmetics and our environment and so never has there been a more timely moment to look at the more natural beauty products on the market. Sarah and Jo discuss all the relevant topics including what healing plants to use for your skin type, 10 natural ways to boost your immune system, how to look after your hair more naturally as well as presenting their Green Goddesses, including Alicia Silverstone, Liz Earle and Scheherazade Goldsmith amongst others. And for the latest round of their ongoing consumer survey they recruited over 1050 new testers who report on 44 categories of natural products from miracle creams to suncare, mascara to shampoo. The result is a blueprint for a more natural, healthier way of living beautifully, which is gentler on you and the environment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Those Who Want Green Beauty Products Jan 30 2010
By Kim L - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are you overwhelmed and confused by the number of beauty products that claim to be "pure" and "natural" and more importantly, wonder if these products really work then this is the book for you.

The authors cut through the hype and look beyond the packaging and advertising jargon to suggest products that really work and truly are green. While there is no such thing as a completely natural beauty product, the recommendations in here are about as close as you can get. They also include a helpful rating system which ranges from one "daisy" -meaning that the product is made with most botantical and/or mineral ingredients with a small percentage of chemicals-to the highest, three "daisies"-meaning that the product is certified organic. Another plus is that many of the recommendations have a star next to them which signifies that they are good buys for a person on a budget.

Another thing that sets this book apart from others on beauty is the authors' less-is-more approach. They say up front that most women have more products then they actually need, and that most women do not a seperate day cream and night cream. They also conclude that toners are an unnecessary step in most beauty regimens. This sort of honesty is rare in a beauty book and even more rare when you consider both authors are veteran beauty journalists.

One caveat that I would throw out to American customers is that many of the products they recommend are from European lines not found in most retail or department stores. However, most are readily availible on-line.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource! Mar 24 2010

This is a great resource if you are looking to streamline and "naturalize" your beauty routine. Although, many of the products mentioned are from Europe, they can be readily purchased online. I have already recommended this book to others!
