By J. Guild - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Clint Adams gets a job looking after security at the Colorado River Festival being organized by his old friend Joe Nicholas in Bullhead City on the Colorado River. This festival is being promoted as a huge event with lots of people of every description coming into town for a good time,to whoop it up,do some gambling, and enjoy some frontier style boxing, wrestling, trick shooting and whatever else being offered .
Things aren't really going as advertised, not many of the big gamblers are showing up,although Clint's old friend Luke Short comes to do some serious gambling. The one thing that provides some unexpected excitement is when the beautiful Brenda "the Bomb" Mitchell enters the main boxing event, usually only involving men.Adams decides to help her as her manager along with his security job.
The novel drags on,without much excitement, except that provided by Brenda. The only interesting characters are Adams,Short and Brenda. The writing is lackluster with little in the way of great Old West expressions or descriptions. However;Adams suspects there is something fishy and even nefarious going on behind the scene. It all comes out in the end ,but all the wait and suspense more or less results in the story falling short of being one of the better episodes one gets in this series.
The novel has 186 pages, but by breaking up into 47 chapters, there are the equivalent of 37 blank pages. On top of that each chapter starts half way down the page, resulting with another 23 blank pages. This makes for a very brief read, but with so little great writing or action,I guess it was long enough.
