Review

The Hairy Bikers, self-proclaimed food lovers, decided it was time to cut back on some of the calories and adopt a healthier lifestyle, without sacrificing flavour. This book is packed with delicious recipes that are for "real people, not skinny minnies" - including hearty family meals and baked treats EASY FOOD Bikers ought to be hirsute, cider-loving and tubby. But in their latest book of recipes Si King and Dave Myers have shed the pounds and immediately reaped the benefit in sales. The moral being that you don't have to lose flavour along with the hefty calorie content BELFAST TELEGRAPH The last people you thought you'd see hosting their own dieting show, but the Hairy Bikers did it in style and proved that losing weight doesn't have to involve lettuce leaves and rabbit food! One of our faves from the slimmed-down duo is the scrummy Spanish-style bake GOOD TO KNOW RECIPES Healthy food doesn't have to be boring, as The Hairy Bikers - now Hairy Dieters! - prove with these mouthwatering low-fat dishes WOMAN'S OWN Dave and Si have lost nearly six stone between them and they've devised lower-calorie versions of usually calorific favourites... keeping all the flavour in tact. Try it - you'll like it. REVEAL The food's good, the advice sensible RADIO TIMES showcases the many mouthwatering, healthy recipes that have helped them drop the pounds... low-calorie delights as a bechamel-free lasagne that uses leeks instead of excess pasta and tandoori chicken with fat-free yoghurt DAILY EXPRESS low-calorie but equally tasty versions of some of their favourite recipes DAILY MAIL Hearty dishes that won't pile on the pounds BBC GOOD FOOD Si & Dave's recipes are SO much more delicious than the average diet dishes, it's no wonder they lost nearly 6st between them! The first weight loss guide I feel I can respect Oct. 6 2012
By AC - Published on Amazon.com

This is the first time I have taken the trouble to review a book. But I really have to talk about this one, as this is a weight-loss guide that I finally feel I could follow. I have found that all the books I have ever read on losing weight (so, so many over so many years!)and the weight-loss clubs I have joined (tried them all) have been insufferably pious and patronising in tone and the recipes have been less than appetising, to put it mildly. They just make me want to rebel against the kind of 'religion' they are preaching, instead of inspiring me to lose weight. But Dave and Si I can respect! The book is well-written, doesn't patronise and the whole approach is sensible, honest and down-to-earth. The recipes themselves are fabulous. Every one is delicious and you don't have to be some kind of expert cook to follow them. In fact, you don't have to be on a diet to try these recipes. They are so good and easy to follow that they are good enough to use even if you're having people over for dinner. Don't be put off by what might sometimes look like a very long list of ingredients, as you'll find most of them are herbs, spices etc.

This food just doesn't feel or taste like the traditional, punitive 'diet' fare. Like most people, I have a very busy lifestyle and I am a competent rather than a good cook, but I do like to cook from scratch, especially at weekends, and freeze portions to be heated up when I get home from work. There are loads of recipes that lend themselves to this, plus many others that can be prepared very quickly, even if you don't get home until quite late in the evening. My tip (apologies to chefs who may baulk at this, but it's something I've done for ages) is to finely dice a big batch of chillis and freeze them in a plastic container, as it is a fiddly job which I know from my own experience can sometimes put you off attempting a recipe, either because you don't have them to hand or you just can't be bothered preparing them - and quite a few of the recipes in this book call for them. They don't have to be defrosted as they will defrost in seconds once they hit the heat, but in any case they defrost in minutes if they're scraped out of the container with a fork onto a plate.

Dave and Si - you probably won't get to read my humble review, but I have to say that I buy and read dozens of books of all kinds every year, and this is definitely one of my best buys of 2012. I am really enjoying trying out the recipes. All I can say is - HURRY UP AND WRITE ANOTHER!!!!!

It worked, recipes taste brill, lots of variety. Jan. 10 2014
By Spangle33 - Published on Amazon.com

The two Hairy Bikers Dieters cookbooks have been fantastic. My son had some weight to loose at 262lbs, saw the HB Dieters TV show on DVD Jan 18th 2013 and has now lost 80lbs, down to 182lbs by Dec 1st 2013. He has loved the recipes in these books, we were so glad a second book came out. His favorites are the curries (Chicken Korma & Lamb Spinach), Lamb Hotpot, Beef in red wine Casserole, Beef Stroganoff, Lasagne, pizzas, Cornish pasty, enchiladas, Doner Kebabs, Orange & Ginger salmon, I could go on.....
He has averaged over 2lb loss a week, had various weeks off for vacations/trips (about 7wks) and enjoyed himself , not worried too much about diet and got straight back onto these recipes afterwards. I think the success is due to it being about really tasty portions and not too much lettuce! Lots of variety, this book is worn out but no-one has tired of the recipes. Many are quick to do, others a bit of chopping but we make a couple in one go and freeze individual portions, the casseroles, curries etc all work very well, then its done for a week. Bring on a third book!
