Shirley Jackson is the master of story telling. She has a way of making you think about every word she writes. She makes even the smallest details a major part of the over all story (like the stone lions). The Haunting of Hill House is a great psychological horror novel that is notorious for making you jump. By the tragic end, you are shocked that such a great story could come from one woman.
