`A house not only haunted by spirits but infested with beings beyond the limits of human imagination'

This is the Troy McCombs début novel, and in it Troy wears his influences right on the sleeve. This is a great and at times fascinating love letter to H P Lovecraft. With books like this there is always a danger that the author falls into the trap of imitation. This however is not the case here, Troy has his own voice and style of writing, that elevates this story from a mere pastiche, into his own variation on the Lovecraft mythos.

Overall this is a very good story, with some very good writing on display. Troy holds the readers interest throughout the narrative, however at times I felt the book needed a more judicial use of the editors pen. Don't let that put you off reading this book, it is well written, exciting and will keep you entertained right up until the end. In fact this book is better written than some by so called experienced writers.

Interesting premise...more SciFi then haunted house. Characters aren't deep but its not about them. Its about the house.

Some good creativity.

Unfortunately the author cant contain himself and feels the need to inject his philosophies into the story. Might have been ok if his philosophy was beyond that of a 12 year old. Reminds me of that old George Carlin joke about kids who think they're "deep" because they get a kanji tatoo.

Some silly moments....a priest telling the hero God doesn't command that he go to church (wrong. See 3rd commandment). Priest also says its ok to believe in other gods like Hindu or Buddhest gods (wrong. See 1st comm
andment). And Hindu gods are not Gods the same way Christians or Jews or Muslims view God.

Also... conversations about Earth being Hell..yeah that's original.

If he could use a little restraint or at least learn about the philosophies before making up nonsense he'd write a good book

Good thing it was free on kindle

1.0 out of 5 stars Did an editor even read this book? Jan 23 2012

This book was a poorly written copy of an HP Lovecraft theme. I will usually stick with a book no matter how poorly it is written but this one was just too painful. Not only are there tons of grammatical errors, things that any editor should have been able to pick up right away, but it was also internally inconsistent. The writer would start out saying that the character woke up to the sun shining in through the window and then stepped outside to a dreary rain drenched day. The character woke up, went straight to the house yet later we hear about him wanting to throw up his lunch. When exactly did he eat? These are things that would be ironed out if anyone had read this book before it went out to the public. The writer couldn't decide if he wanted the story to be told in first person narrative or 3rd person. The very first scene of the book was a cliche of all horror movies. 4 teenagers getting high and going to explore a haunted house. I only made it through about 6 chapters but I just couldn't force myself to go on. Don't waste your time on this one.
