5.0 out of 5 stars Moving on - in a good direction, July 4 2009

This review is from: The Human Condition (Audio CD)
The first reviews I read for this album described a more "progressive" approach to song writing. And so, I was quite surprised when I finally had a listen. While perhaps more progressive in some ways, this album contains some fairly heavy music, perhaps best described as a melding of "Network" with "10000 Days".

Yet, this album gives us more than just a blending of previous work. The music is clearly written with, and for, Rob Moratti. Good set of pipes, indeed, but he's not Michael Sadler, and as the music was clearly written to match Rob's voice, the overall product does sound new and fresh.

And yet, after several listens, at its core, the arrangements clearly remain those of Saga.

No really weak tunes on the album, and several standouts: "Step Inside", "Avalon", "Let it Go" and "Crown of Thorns", which will please fans of the more heavy Saga tunes, and "Now is Now" and "Hands of Time", clearly the most "prog-rock" compositions of the album, and which I can't keep out of my head!

Perhaps this comment from a friend sums up this excellent recording: "This album kicks ##ss - it's the first CD I bought in 4 years".

Thanks guys!

Take care!

No worries: The new singer is a great fit, and fantastic talent in his own right. Sure, Michael's gone, but the "saga" continues ... HIGHLY recommended. I enjoy it more than the last record with Sadler, to be honest.

Saga has introduced a new singer to the band and what a change... I really like the new sound.
