This publication focuses exclusively on finishing the log building. It covers provisions right from the foundations to ensure that the sill log will be tightly sealed, all the way to the installation of kitchen cabinets in a manner that will allow the logs to settle without damaging the cabinetry. Each chapter of this book depicts one aspect of the building process and provides several options for finishing them using a diverse selection of techniques and products available to builders of log homes. Drawings depict the placement of high performance sealants e.g., sealants, wind-proofing membranes and vapour barriers, and explicitly show how to use and install them so that they effectively perform their function. This book is the needed link in between the log builder and the one who finishes it.
With these construction details log building will have a future even in our energetic optimized world.
In addition to that many mistakes are avoidable just by the knowledge gathered in this book.

This is the first book that takes an in depth detailed look at how to finsh the log home after the log shell is up. There are lots of excellent books on building a log shell (The Best?-Robert Chamber's Log Construction Manual)but there is a shortage of up-to-date information on how to finish it.
This book by Dalibor Houdek at Forest Products Innovations goes a long way to rectifying the lack.
He includes clear text and detailed drawing on a wide variety of topics including Door and Window installation, settling, roof framing,foundations,plumbing, fireplace flashing, gaskets...
The focus is on techniques to create a weather tight energy efficient building.
The details are not always easy to construct but the extensive drawings and text are quite clear.
I will include a copy of this book in the Owner's manual of each log house we build.
If you work on log houses or design them buy this book.

This book offers knowledge to finish a log home according to the latest energy standards. The details shown make sure loghomes will be built in the future. Colored pictures throughout the book shoe the soltions. The detailed descriptions are written that everybody will understand what the key for a up to date loghome is. But not just the beginner will find new solutions for old problems.
It is going to be one of my most important books in my library.

Very good book with a lot of explanation on how to finist the log shell. Also it feature many different way to do so depending what you use. The bad point is the price, since it was written by the international log builder association to help log builder. I am sure they could have sell it for less and stil make a reasonnable profit.
