Product Description

Product Description

Out of print in the U.S.! Import pressing of this 1990 compilation, the first collection from the Pop/Dance superstar. Features 17 of her biggest hits up to 1990 including 'Holiday', 'Borderline', 'Material Girl', 'Into The Groove' and many others. Warner.

This is the perfect way to hear Madonna: no album filler, just one hit after another. As a singles artist, she works wonders: quick, danceable tunes that are occasionally "controversial" but never set out to change the world (and don't). The Immaculate Collection begins with her earliest work ("Holiday", "Borderline") and matures from there ("Papa Don't Preach", "Like A Prayer"), ending in 1990. The highlight is the inclusion of "Justify My Love", a track recorded specifically for this compilation. One caveat: since Madonna is a true video artist, it'd be even nicer to "see" these songs. --Rob O'Connor

I understand why people do not like this album. It's full of edits, remixes, tracks mixed with Q-Sound, and some of her hits are missing. I, however, love it. It's the first Madonna album I ever bought so a lot of the versions present on this album are the ones I'm most familiar with. Even though it's a greatest hits collection, it sounds very cohesive and there's a certain magic about it that I don't find on "GHV2" and "Celebration". There's nothing better than 80's Madonna tunes in my opinion. I'm not bothered by the omissions on here because I like the more "Straight to the point" approach. The ones that did not make it on here didn't have the impact of the ones that did. "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me" are great new additions to this album, and became big hits in their own right.

1. HOLIDAY (#16 US /# 2 UK) - This version is an edit of Jellybean's remix on her "You Can Dance" album.
2. LUCKY STAR (#4 US / #14 UK)
3. BORDERLINE (#10 UK / #2 UK)
4. LIKE A VIRGIN (#1 US / #3 UK) - Edit of Jellybean's Extended Dance Remix.
5. MATERIAL GIRL (#2 US / #3 UK) - Edit of Jellybean's Extended Dance Remix.
6. CRAZY FOR YOU (#1 US / #2 UK)
7. INTO THE GROOVE (#1 UK) - This version is an edit of Shep Pettibone's remix on her "You Can Dance" album.

By 1990, Madonna had scored an impressive string of hit singles that few artists have ever matched. By this time, she collected 25 of the 49 hit singles she has scored since 1983. And while it does leave some stuff out, it's a brilliant collection.
"The Immaculate Collection" contains many Madonna favorites, from "Like A Virgin" to "Material Girl" to "Like A Prayer". These songs, along with "Open Your Heart", "Cherish and "Express Yourself", are among the greatest songs in popular music. Anyone who deosn't like these songs does not have a good ear for good music. Also, there's a few not so recognized songs included here, like the beautiful ballads "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell" as well as the eerie "Rescue Me"
As I said earlier, the immaculate collection does leave some stuff out, and only one of these omitted songs failed to make the top 10. The songs not included here are:
"Angel" (number 5)
"Dress You Up" (number 5)
"True Blue" (number 3)
"Who's That Girl" (number 1, the most telling omission)
"Causing A Commotion" (number 2)
"Oh Father" (number 20, the song that broke her top 10 streak)
"Keep It Together" (number 8)
"Hanky Panky" (number 10)
Still, what's here is an amazing legacy of music created in such short time by an artists who remains an icon of the 20th century and an influence on so many musicians. Purchase this today.

I've always known who Madonna was (flashy, controversial, famous for being famous), but I never understood why. I'm 18 and I was curious about this so-called "Pop Icon", so I purchased this CD. I was astounded. After so many years of being a famous face, we tend to forget why a person becomes famous in the first place (Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson), we forget their genius. After listening to this album, I finally realized why this woman is so loved and idolized, she is truly deserving of all her hype. Her songs are just pop perfection. They are everything pop music "MUST" be, and have become individual anthems. The title, first of all, is the perfect title for this album simply because you begin to realize, as you listen, that this woman is a gift to the art of music from heaven above. Songs like "Holiday", "Cherish", "Into The Groove", and "Like A Prayer" are pure treasures. All the songs are treasures that should always be remembered. For the first time in my entire life of being a music listener, I can't decide on a favorite song from an individual artist. They are "all" that good. If you love pop, and divas, or if you're a music listener in general (no matter what genre you listen to) this is one album to have in your collection. Trust me, you won't regret it.

In the eighties, pop music reached a high point it would never reach again. And one of the finest pop musicians of the era was Madonna. I have never been too crazy about female musical artists, but Madonna is a huge exception. For two decades she has been dishing out pop music that stands the test of time. And, like any popular artist, she released a hits compilation. How does the so-called Immaculate Collection measure up? Read on and find out.
-Let's say you're one of those people who listens to your local eighties music station, and you've heard a number of Madonna songs you like, but you don't want to shell out cash for all of her albums. The Immaculate Collection is a great alternative! Just about all of her big eighties solo hits (Like A Prayer, Material Girl, Vogue, La Isla Bonita, and many others) can be found here.
-You also get a number of underrated masterpieces that were never hits - but should have been.
-This compilation is readily available in a number of stores.
-This compilation is a good value. It's relatively inexpensive, and you get seventeen songs on one disc!
-Many of the songs are EDITED! WHY!? Many artists put edited/altered versions of their big hits on their hits compilations, and sadly Madonna has proven to be no exception.
-Where's True Blue? IT WAS A HUGE HIT!
-This only covers Madonna's eighties stuff, so you don't get any of her modern hits like Music (there's a Greatest Hits Volume Two, but THIS is the better compilation by far, in terms of the quality of the material present.)
If you're a casual fan of Madonna's eighties material, The Immaculate Collection is just what you need. It's not an immaculate compilation, but it's still a good one nonetheless, and recommended to all casual Madonna fans. And if you only get ONE Madonna hits compilation, make it THIS one, and not Greatest Hits Volume Two - the new one just doesn't capture her in her prime the way this one does.
