This book is both profound and a good read. It's the type of book you can get through quickly, but that stays with you for a long time. It leaves you feeling enriched rather than depressed, even though it is a thought-provoking book, and a grim one.The author is a master of tension and suspense. I kept reading because I just had to find out what had happened to Remouald in his youth that turned him from an intellectually gifted boy to an apparently dim-witted bank clerk. Clementine's story was not so riveting for me, but it had its interesting moments also. I think Soucy is marvelous at depicting what is going on in a person's mind. I did find myself a bit bored at times but mostly his "interior work" is exceptional and interesting. His book is that rare combination of true insight and powerful prose. Well worth reading.
