This book will help you appreciate the Mass..., May 30 2001

This book was written long ago, and thus was aimed at the traditional latin Mass, but it is also just as appropriate for the current Mass. This book is a little long, but is a great read! It dramatically improved my whole understanding of the Mass, what it means, and what is actually happening during Mass. This book will make you want to attend Mass on a daily basis, not just on Sundays. This may be the most important book that a Catholic could read, because of its ability to make attending Mass a pleasure instead of a "Sunday obligation". Scott Hahn's "The Lambs Supper" is another good book (and is a quicker read than this one), but "The Incredible Catholic Mass" is my favorite. Buy it, read it, and then re-read it periodically.

The Incredible Catholic Mass, April 29 2000

This review is from: The Incredible Catholic Mass: An Explanation of the Mass (Paperback)
This book was originally written in 1704 by a German priest following the 30 years war. He was surprised and anguished by the lack of knowledge and understanding the general public had about faith and the church. It was written to educate and give people a true understanding about the sacrificial mass. It is on the technical side, but this may be just do to the fact that current day Catholics have little understanding of the terminology used by the church centuries ago. I like the book because it makes clear what was meant when Jesus employed the church to '...do this for a commemoration of Me'. I also find it interesting to read what critics of the church had to say centuries ago, as critics still say today. The writer has strong rebuttle for each attack. I would not recommend this for someone who just wants the basics of mass, or for the RCIA candidate. This is meaty and I recommend it for someone who wants a very complete Catholic library or is doing research on the mass. It is an excellent piece of church history as well.
