Very fun action/horror story,

This review is from: The Infection (Paperback)
This book is a blend between a traditional zombie book and aliens/Stephen King's The Mist. The premise is nanotechnology gone wild creates zombies and other nasties (this is briefly mentioned in the first few pages, so no spoilers). China takes the blame at first, but at least one character suggests aliens, which at this point, seems more plausible to me.But it's fiction, so it doesn't need to be 100% believable to work. The zombies and others are realistic enough. They are horrifying, and the change of pace from standard zombie books makes this well worth picking up. The action in the book is intense and visceral. The story revolves around a group of survivors who have joined up with the depleted crew of an M2 Bradley fighting vehicle outside of Pittsburgh. Accurately described, if you're not familiar with an M2, you can picture it as a light tank with room for troops on the inside. This vehicle carries the group through different settings, ranging from burnt-out neighborhoods, to an abandoned hospital, to a refugee camp, and through several thick groups of nasty beings out to kill and/or eat them. The characters in the book take center stage as Dilouie explores not only their reaction to events around them, but how each of them initially responded to the crisis. It also details how they met. Over the course of the book the characters grow on you, making them the center of the story and the zombies almost the background. I say almost because the new varieties of nasties coming at the group keep's the interest in them fresh and exciting. All in all I can say that this is a decent book period, let alone for fans of horror, action, zombies, aliens, and/or apocalyptic fiction. It's a refreshing change of pace mostly for its decent treatment of its characters. In a book filled with the world falling apart to horrible zombies and mutants, I think that fact alone makes it worth reading. The pacing of the book is also quite nice, breaking the intense action with enough downtime to catch your breath before cranking it up again. It's not a classic work of fiction, but it is an awfully fun few hours of reading if this kind of story interests you.

A Zombie Apocalypse With a Difference,
This review is from: The Infection (Paperback)
Love the zombie genre of films and books, particularly graphic novels - so I was really anticipating reading The Infection. I loved it because it truly is a zombie apocalypse with a difference. It is very original so I hate to compare it with anything else, but think "The Stand" meets "World War Z" and you'll get the idea, without giving away any plot spoilers! Definately recommend it to lovers of horror and zombie genre books!

Infectious reading, hard to put down.,
This review is from: The Infection (Paperback)
As with Craig Dilouie's Tooth and Nail, The Infection grabs hold of you from the start and never lets go. Pulse pounding action coupled with believeable and likeable characters drive this story from page one onward, each chapter read had me feeling like a heroin addict jonesing for his next hit, so in short if you are in search of a great read, look no further, just click on the add to cart icon, check out, wait a week and enjoy.
