If you haven't read the Inkheart trilogy and fantasy interests you then this is one for you to read. Although I read these as a child, I still have fond memories of the story that will make me read them again and again throughout my life.

The story manages to have both the classical good vs evil plot (a father and daughter versus a villain) whilst retaining relatively grounded and realistic characters. It contains, in my opinion, a nice mix of the fantastical magic elements and the more true-to-life ones, allowing it to appeal to fans of both without you feeling like the story doesn't contain enough of what you prefer (magic/reality).

Any adult who enjoys fantasy would enjoy this series, but I do recommend this for the pre-teen/teen age group as its themes and plot would more likely appeal to them than to an adult one (depending of course on the genre of books you tend to read).

Book 1 - at the beginning of the book, the pages are coming apart from the binding. Book 2 and 3 appear to be okay.

I purchased this set at the recommendation of the Kindergarten-through Grade 6 teachers at my granddaughters school. She is a high interest and high level reader (while only in grade 3 currently she reads at a grade 8 or 9 level). This set of books is described by teachers as not too "dark" for a younger reader. All children seem to be into fairy tale type reading. She is getting these for Christmas so I will give you her view point in a few months.

Great set. Dec 13 2010

This is a nice set of satisfyingly thick books. Though I bought this for a young reader (5th grade)who has already read the series, she will love having the whole set of paperbacks contained in the attractive cardboard box. My 5th grader devoured these books - she found them very exciting and involving. She was quite pleased that she read books of this thickness (500-600 pages). Looking at the material, I think I would enjoy reading them, too - and I just might borrow them from her! Having seen the movie "Inkheart," I know it's a good storyline with good versus evil and good winning. I'm a big Tolkien fan and think others who enjoy Tolkien would also like the Inkheart series. Good reading for precocious middle schoolers through adult.

Inkheart Trilogy Oct. 29 2010
By Jesslow - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I fell in love with the first book, Inkheart, at the age of 12. This book weaves magic, cunning, mystery, love, and great storytelling together and is a great read for tweens and teens alike. Don't be discouraged by the weight and size of this book, although it's large its very easy to get through. Once you read Inkheart, you will be compelled to read its sequels.

Fantastic -- Would recommend to people of all ages Feb. 11 2011
By V. Hoyt - Published on Amazon.com

This book series is one of the best fantasy series I've ever read. I could not put these books down. They put the movie to shame in entirety. The series follows the story of a father and daughter who are searching for their wife and mother, while fighting off an evil villain, whose story they've found themselves stuck in. These books have well written plots, realistic characters, a perfect mixture of magical and real -- and an outstanding portrayal of the battle between good and evil, even within ourselves.

Warning: Book three is intense and likely to prompt sadness in the reader. The calm after the storm is well worth the journey though. You'll find yourself rooting for the characters as they travel through, even as you bite your nails in suspense. ;)

Very Exciting Read! March 13 2012
By Carol S. Smith - Published on Amazon.com

Although this set is recommended for 9 yrs. old and up, I purchased it anyway, for my 6 yr. old granddaughter. Unfortunately, the wording is way above her head. But since she's seen and loves the Inkheart movie and characters I thought I'd give it a try. She stops me when I say a word she doesn't understand so that I can explain the meaning or when she doesn't understand exactly what's happening, so it is slow going. Surprisingly she is not only anxious to keep going but is also increasing her vocabulary! When she's not visiting, I, too, are enjoying these books! Highly recommend!!
