What a fun adventure!!!, July 30 2006
This review is from: The Inlands I: The Man with the Stone (Paperback)
This book just blew me away...I never expected to read such an obscure piece of fiction and become so drawn to the characters. I related to the young Cole, a twelve year old fraternal twin boy who seemed to get the short end of the stick. His brother, Jimmy, is athletic and good looking, and poor Cole is overweight with a gluttonous addiction to Glossette Peanuts. But that's before the boy is kidnapped by werewolves and taken to another world...taken hostage, that is, by monsters who want to reclaim the magical stone that destroyed their home. And the stone is in possession of Cole's titular step-father, Edwin Krollup. This sets up the overall plot, but the adventure is just beginning: there are so many characters, and so many interweaving stories that the narrative never becomes stagnant, and once Jimmy realizes his stupidity, he finally goes after his brother in this other world called the Inlands...a world Edwin Krollup has been hiding beneath his house, for it's connected to our own world by abandoned, and some say haunted, coal mines. Jimmy and Cole then become entangled in another world's ongoing war between man and wolf, in which each learns the virtue of courage, bravery and family. Sadly, the book ends with a cliffhanger, but hopefully Mr. Christensen releases the next epic in the trilogy, Chain of the Worlds, sooner than later. This reader is hungry for more.

An Amazing Story Teller, Feb 28 2006
This review is from: The Inlands I: The Man with the Stone (Paperback)
What can I say...the writer, Ryan Christensen, is an amazing story teller. I have never really been into the Fastasy genre but after reading this book I am hooked. This story follows two young brothers who discover a link from our world into an unimaginable new world through a hidden tunnel. They become lost and now must find their way home but not without their fair share of challanges along the way. War, greed, magic and power bring these two worlds together for a the ultimate battle of good versus evil. This novel will captivate you. Read it. I know that you won't be disappointed.

A Great New Book In The Fantasy Genre, Jan 26 2006
This review is from: The Inlands I: The Man with the Stone (Paperback)
On the back of this book it says that the book is in the same vein as The Lord of the Rings, or The Chronicles of Narnia, but as I read through this 500 page epic, I came to the conclusion that the only thing this shared with those two famous novels is the genre. Author Ryan Christensen has crafted a new kind of fantasy story. Switching back and forth between our world and this mysterious new world (The Inlands) we follow a number of main and supporting characters, each in a pursuit of their own realistic goals. The way the twin brothers are written is fantastic. The twins couldn't be more different, each having completely different qualities sharing only their last name. But as you read, you peel back the layers on the characters and see why they are who they are. They share a common interest about why their new stepfather Edwin Krollup, a mega-billionaire, has built his mansion on top of old mines, which end up being the doorway to The Inlands. I won't spoil the story obviously, but it's definitely a new take on the fantasy genre, and definitely worth picking up.
