Disclaimer -Don't be frighten by the negative beginning keep reading it gets better. Remember bookies these are just my opinions so take it with a grain of salt, thanks.
When I started reading this book I thought I made a mistake. I don't want to make comparisons but it was shaping up to be another insipid substance-less bore with Piper's whining it was annoying, but after about two chapters in. I started to see a real story begin to emerge. Each of the girls had their own set of issues to deal with. She did an awesome job of showing the different perspectives of each character, in the context of their family issues. A true depiction that anyone could relate to. Especially the tunnel vision and the "why me" syndrome everyone is guilty of at one time in their life. Where you feel like the world is just conspiring against your happiness-- family dysfunction is universal, peer pressure, discovering who you are. For a debut author I think she did a smashing job cause trust me I've read some freshman novels that I thought should have never been published ok that was harsh that at least could have used some more fine tuning. A good read..., April 2 2012

This story is along the lines of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in that it's a coming of age of four girls over one fall semester of highschool. No there is no pants sharing. Yes there is a lot of teen drama.
The four girls, desperate to get out of their small Texas town, decide to join the student exchange program and experience parts of the world and share their experiences with each other via Facebook.
The journey the girls traverse is thrilling, scary, and life altering. Well worth the read.

What a really fun read!! When I first got this book from the library..I wasn't sure what to expect! But the concept of this novel sounded awesome so I had to give this one a try.
What I really liked about this book was that it rotated chapters between all four girls..so it was nice to see all of their different perspectives on their travels instead of just seeing one of the girl's thoughts. I also really liked the travel aspect of this book..who doesn't want to go abroad to study? I know I do!!
Out of all of the girls I really liked Cassidy and thought I could really relate to her. At first, leaving home was hard for her but in the end she really loved her time in Australia and she found love along the way with an amazing Australian boy :).
I really liked the over all plot of this book..it was a very original contemporary book and overall I really liked the overall concept of friendship, travel, and falling in love!!
The only thing I didn't really love about this book was the subplot with Izzy..while she redeemed herself in the last chapter it was really hard for me to connect with her.
Overall, if you are looking for a fun, contemporary read definitely give this book a try :)
