This sequel to 1984's rip-snorting romantic-adventure, Romancing the Stone, is a moderately entertaining tale that pales by comparison to its predecessor. Romance novelist Kathleen Turner and retired soldier-of-fortune Michael Douglas return as a now-complacent couple. Bored with life on a yacht, they find excitement thrust upon them when she accepts a speaking engagement in the Middle East. Once there, she is abducted and finds herself involved with the "jewel" everyone is chasing. Douglas teams up once more with Danny DeVito to rescue his love. Less charming and more predictable than the original, this suffers for one simple reason: the characters have nowhere to go. In the original story we watched Turner blossom from timid storyteller to lusty adventuress. A Fun To Watch......But Rushed In Production Sequel To Romancing The Stone

This movie is a fun sequel to "Romancing The Stone", but I feal that the production of the film was rushed and there was not much concentration in the writing of the script.
I feel this film FAILED to deliver the same quality of action, writing, plot, and story line that Romancing The Stone gave us.
Douglas and kathleen Turner did not play the same characters as they did in the First Movie, and it was as if the characters were re-written in a bad way....even though they had the same names.
The Budget for the movie is clearly much lower, and the acting is not very good.
But if you are up for a cheesey 80's Movie with dorky lines and dim witted humor...you will have fun watching Jewl Of The Nile

I blinked and missed the eighties, too busy working and raising kids. So I picked this up, along with "Romancing the Stone," in the nineties, and caught up!
A cheezy, but classy, brace of time capsules.

Rarely does a sequel to a smash movie rise to the same level as its predecessor - but perhaps Jewel of the Nile is the exception (along with some of the Indiana Jones follow-ups).

Skip this one. Just watch "Romancing the Stone" again.
Not too bad for a sequel, but this film has absolutely none of the "magic" of the original. Everything seems forced, contrived, and artificial by comparison. Read more

Fun movie !
Romancing The stone probably is a better movie as it is more exciting but its sequel "The Jewel Of the Nile" is every bit as entertaining. Read more

Better then the Original Movie
Unlike the other reviews, I think Jewel of the Nile is better then Romanceing the Stone with a better storyline, more laughs,and a more interesting premise to work with. Read more
