5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to having a root cellar!, Jun 28 2011
By J. C. Kritic - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Joy of Keeping a Root Cellar: Canning, Freezing, Drying, Smoking and Preserving the Harvest (Paperback)
Well-written, carefully thought through, and excellently organized, this single volume can be your guide to the pleasure and art of creating and keeping a root cellar. It's not just a hobby, but also a practical, money-saving way to have delicious food year round. Comprehensive in scope, coverage is given to making a root cellar in the country, suburbs, or city, not to mention how to select the best fruits and vegetables to store. The color photos make it a delight for the eye and the techniques allow those with different resources and goals to enjoy the root cellar suited to their desires. Highly recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as "Root Cellaring" by Mike and Nancy Bubel, Aug 24 2011

Not so much about root cellars. But a food preservation 101 intro to canning, freezing, etc. in preserving the harvest. If you want a book about MAINLY Root Cellar, then you want "Root Cellaring" by Mike and Nancy Bubel. This was OK for intro to food preservation - but did not go into any subject in depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep it handy, Aug 11 2011

I leave this book out on my coffee table and even friends who have no personal interest in vegetable gardening or in preserving food are drawn to it. The colors, layout and typeface are all well chosen and even the quality of the paper is excellent. The photos throughout the book are most striking; some are practical pictures of materials needed, but most are artistic still-lives of fruits, veggies and preserves, landscapes and candid shots of people, animals and plants on the author's own farm. Not only are these photos lovely to look at, they also lend the book a personal tone.
