3.0 out of 5 stars if you are a Pilcher fan...., May 2 2009

If you are a HUGE Pilcher fan like me, then you want to get your hands on absolutely anything. This tiny book is not just 60 pages, it is pages the size of your hand. Might be disappointing....

3.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than expected, Nov 12 2010
By Sally Anne Slapcabbage - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Key (Phoenix 60p Paperbacks) (Paperback)
I'd been searching high and low for "The Key" and was happy to have found it. However, I had no idea it was such a tiny, short story (combined with two other stories for this book). I enjoyed reading the stories, but I don't think I would have paid what I did for the book had I know how short it was.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic Pilcher, Jan 25 2012

The Key, the 25th book by Rosamunde Pilcher, is a booklet of three short stories. In The Key, Australian nurse, Ruth Conway, travels from London to the Cotswolds one weekend, looking for Stenton, the house her grandmother owned, the house her mother grew up in, the house she feels she knows so very well from her mother's many stories. But she is in for a disappointment when she finally finds the house. However, meeting Gavin Armitage, the owner, goes a long way to making up for it. A sweet, evocative tale about family and the power of memories.
In The White Birds, Eve Douglas is suddenly called to her daughter, Jane's home in Scotland, to look after her grandson Jamie, as Jane goes into early labour. What sort of omen are the white birds she keeps seeing? A heart-warming tale about the importance of family and friends.
In The Tree, Londoners Jill and Ian Armitage are somewhat annoyed to give up a weekend in the country when Ian's godfather, Edwin Makepeace comes to London for a funeral. But their kindness in showing him their humble home, feeding him a meal and keeping company with him has unexpected rewards. A touching tale about being kind to those around you.
These three short stories vividly illustrate why all of Rosamunde Pilcher's works became best-sellers.
