3.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes quite artistic, Oct 30 2005
By C. Blanc "Chris Blanc" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Last Goodbye (Paperback)
There are moments in this book where the author soars above the world of mediocrity he portrays. The bulk of it is standard mystery-thriller, complete with down-on-his-luck, out of control of his emotions, but basically "good guy" hero. He ties industry, race, and murder together in a quintessentially Southern twist on a standard plot. There is nothing that much different from normal here. Yet, there are moments of unguardedly clear pathos, and oftentimes the words sing when emotion is especially strong, even if in places not central to the storyline. Ultimately, I'd have to say it's pulp like the rest, but this book has glimpses of something greater possible.
