Book Description

April 6 1999
Three centuries ago in Scotland a curse was born of the long-standing feud between the Claren and the MacKinnon clans. Now, generations later, destiny has decreed that three women, the last of the Claren line, be granted one final chance to set things right.

Maggie, Cailean, and Delaney Claren are three cousins who grow up unaware of one another—until an inheritance brings them together. Now mysterious journals and the deed to an ancient Scottish castle will bring them face-to-face with the warriors at the heart of the MacKinnon family, three brothers sentenced to cruel fates by a terrible curse.

Duncan is trapped in the form of a ghost, Rory must live an immortal life alone, and Alexander has been wrenched by time from the past to the present, with no way back. Ferociously compelling, dangerously relentless, they are bound by no mortal laws—except desire for the three Claren women. The journals speak of one key that can break the powerful spell. And finding that key will plunge them all into a world of unforeseeable danger and tantalizing desire....

3.0 out of 5 stars A really cool idea Oct 8 2002
By Marie
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I thought this book started out as one of the coolest ideas I had seen in a long, long time. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the story, and the order in which the characters were introduced, this one book could have actually been three in a series and probably would have worked better that way. I felt very close to the first couple, because I had been with them through the whole story. It would have been ok to carry this book on to a second one an introduce the second couple, etc. That way there would have been more character development. As it was, the third couple's trials and tribulations basically meant nothing to me. I didn't get enough time to like them and feel the sparks before the the climax happened and the book ended! It would be so cool if the author rewrote this book and either made it an epic of 1000 pages... or a series of 3 books with the real climax happening at the end of the 3rd story. (Hey it works for Diana Gabaldon.) Each couple's story could have been strong enough to stand alone. It's still a cool book though and a really unusual supernatural manifestation.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 strangers, bound by destiny, and a key April 20 2002
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was my first book by Donna Kauffman. It definatly wont be my last. From page one, to page 405, I was mesmerized. Three Claren women, three Mackinnon men. The only problem is, there is 300 hundred years age difference between them. The Claren cousins are descendants of the women who change the life path of the MacKinnon men. Each man, has had a spell cast, one in purgatory, one immortal, one time passage, none knowing the fate of the other brother. It takes 3 Claren women, who dont even know of each others existance, to reunite the three men, and to create a family that can conquer anything, even purgatory.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Legend MacKinnon is fabulous!! Dec 19 2001
By Jackie
Format:Mass Market Paperback
If only men like these MacKinnon men existed, women wouldn't have to invent them. Donna Kauffman does such a good job on this story! It is really three tales in one, each one as good as the next. I haven't read any of Mrs. Kauffman's other books, but after reading this one, I certainly intend to. If you love books on timetravel, scottish history, and mystery you will love this book!
