WHY DOESN'T ANYONE READ THESE BOOKS? THEY'RE REALLY GOOD!, Sep 21 2008

This review is from: The Lighthouse Keepers: The Lighthouse Trilogy Book Three (Hardcover)
This is the third book in the trilogy as it says above. My advice would be to start with the first one- not this one. Don't misunderstand me though- what I'm saying is buy all three books now, and start with the first one.
These are excellent books for young adults, and much better written than the Harry Potter books. They struck me as being similar to Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy in terms of quality across the board. The writing is tight. The character development is smart and consistent throughout: something you often see ignored in YA literature. Also, the plots aren't chock-a-block full of empty scenes that are there to take up space until it's almost the end of a 7th school year.
Also, as a side note, Mr. McKinty writes fantastic crime fiction. All of which I enjoyed, particularly "Dead I Well May Be". These are NOT children's books or YA books. They are very much adult books. If you're like my wife and I though, you'll appreciate this author's ability to switch genre with ease.
