Book Description

Sep 11 2012

The partners at Finley & Figg often refer to themselves as a “boutique law firm.” Boutique, as in chic, selective, and prosperous. Oscar Finley and Wally Figg are none of these things. They are a two-bit operation of ambulance chasers who bicker like an old married couple. Until change comes their way—or, more accurately, stumbles in. After leaving a fast-track career and going on a serious bender, David Zinc is sober, unemployed, and desperate enough to take a job at Finley & Figg.

Now the firm is ready to tackle a case that could make the partners rich—without requiring them to actually practice much law. A class action suit has been brought against Varrick Labs, a pharmaceutical giant with annual sales of $25 billion, alleging that Krayoxx, its most popular drug, causes heart attacks. Wally smells money. All Finley & Figg has to do is find a handful of Krayoxx users to join the suit. It almost seems too good to be true . . . and it is.

Includes an excerpt of John Grisham’s Calico Joe and a special preview of his upcoming novel The Racketeer

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book Feb 2 2012
By D. Paine TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
This is the second book by Grisham I have ever read because his stuff doesn't normally interest me but this book caught my attention and it was well worth reading. At times it was amusing (David running away from a high paying job to work with "has beens" and enjoying life while doing it). This book really proves that money isn't everything. I rate this book 5 stars because I plan on reading it again in a few years. I also recommend reading "The Testament" by John Grisham (I have read that book more than once).

By Donald Mitchell #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
"Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich." -- Proverbs 28:6 (NKJV)

John Grisham takes readers on a humorous tour of what street lawyers (aka "ambulance chasers") do. He wisely chooses three different characters with wildly different motives and talents to make cautionary points for anyone thinking of hiring a lawyer at little or no cost. I thought it was Mr. Grisham's funniest book by a wide margin. My wife (who isn't a lawyer) saw little humor in it . . . but liked the story anyway.

You'll also get a great inside look at what small-time lawyers think about on a daily basis.

For the public, the book's big shocker may be realizing how little experience most lawyers have in litigation.

As always, Mr. Grisham does offer hope through redemption.

Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Grisham with more humour than usual Jun 1 2012
Format:Hardcover
Having read most of John Grisham's novels, it wasn't surprising that this novel was true to form and an easy read. What was surprising was how humourous this book was relative to some of his others. The characters are real "characters" and, while there are certainly serious and touching story lines, there's a nice injection of lighter moments. A great book to take on vacation.

I am quite a fan of John Grisham, but I have to say this was such a boring book I could barely get through it! No real intrigue, no surprises, just a rather unambitious novel. Read more
