5.0 out of 5 stars loved it Aug 7 2011
By Lynda K
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is book four of the Whispering Mountain series but can be read stand alone.
The other books are:
Book 1 Texas Rain (Travis and Rainey)
Book 2 Texas Princess (Tobin and Liberty)
Book 3 Tall, Dark Texan (Teagen and Jessie)
Book 4 The Lone Texan (Sage and Drummond)
Travis, Tobin, Teagen are brothers and Sage is their younger sister. I have only read Teagen's story prior to reading the Lone Texan. Drummond has had Sage in his sights since he first met her. He is younger than her by about 3 years (which is refreshing after reading some Diana Palmer novels). Sage has just returned from studying back east to be a doctor. She is accompanied by her assistant (a nurse) Bonnie. The romance between Bonnie and Brad(ford) is almost as good as between the main characters. Drummond Roak is both gunfighter and pure alpha, and he wants Sage "as is", doesn't want to change her at all, a true partner. Sage has 3 older protective brothers and being a woman in the "old west" mistrusts marriage and ever being a "little woman". As she is older than Drum she has viewed him as "the kid", meeting him again as a man, and then coming to view him as he views her makes for a very good story.
I will be purchasing books 1 and 2 and there is a new "whispering mountain" book out, Texas Blue, but I am not sure how that one connect to the ones I've already read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but something was missing..... Oct 9 2009
By Barb H - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I waited a long time for this book to come out and was so excited to read it. I LOVED Drummond and Sage in the earlier books so much!! The chemistry between them was off the charts and they were magic. I couldn't wait to see their love story unfold. Was it a good read? Yes, but I felt something was missing. I'm not sure what, I really can't put my finger on it but it didn't quite live up to what I'd hoped for. It wasn't as magical as I expected.

When I first started reading I got the immediate feeling it was going to be full of secondary characters that were going to take away too much time that should be devoted to the two main characters, as sometimes happens in Jodi's books, and then when they became separated for 80 pages I definitely got the feeling this wasn't going to be what I'd hoped. Again, IMO, this was way too long to separate the main characters. I expect them to be separated and to have conflict, you wouldn't have a good story if you didn't, however sometimes I think it's extended way too long with no real purpose other than to fill pages. What happened in those 80 pages could definitely have been condensed with the same effect. The third thing that made me skeptical I wasn't going to get what I was hoping for, two secondary characters seemed to be getting more steamier love scenes than Drum and Sage. Still...I kept reading but was getting pretty discouraged.

Things did an about face. Even though the beginning had a slow start most of the second part of the book had Drum and Sage together more often than not and when they were apart it was only for brief periods. YEA! And yes the love scenes did get better! The one thing I was disappointed in however was the end. Jodi tends to have her hero's disappear somewhere toward the end then they show up in the last one or two pages for the big ending except there's not enough time for a big ending or a really satisfying one. Sage and Drum had a few sentences after reuniting and that was it. What a big let down especially when I know Jodi can do an awesome ending with more than a few paragraphs. I felt cheated with the ending. It really needed to be much longer than it was. Please correct that! Had the ending been there I would have probably given it a 5 but the build up just wasn't there as it should have been at the end.

Still, all in all....I wouldn't have missed these two characters for anything. They were wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE JODI THOMAS' NOVELS Oct 16 2009
By Kym McNabney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've always loved Jodi Thomas novels, and have been impatiently awaiting for this one. I loved the fire between Drum and Sage and couldn't wait to hear their story. Plus I loved all the McMurry men so I'd hoped to get a taste of them involved in Sage's life as well.

I'll still give the book five stars because I love Jodi's writing, and it was a good story, though I had expected something a bit different. I would have liked to have seen them together more with all the tension they shared in the pervious novels.

I did though enjoy the interaction between Bonnie and Brad. I just felt there was a little too much disconnection and space between the two main characters. All in all, it was still a great story and well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Whispering Mtn Series Sep 3 2012
By Gemms - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I enjoyed the first three Whispering Mtn books. But this is the book I was waiting on. I wanted to read about Roak and Sage since there first encounter. Ms. Thomas did a great job with this book and I could feel the spirit of her previous books. Sage and Roak have a great time falling in love and Roak is any girls dream bad boy. The side story of Bonnie and Bradford was equally enjoyable and glad it was included. This is my favorite and I was sad to see it end. I was glad to know that the Whispering Mtn. series went on, but was greatly dissappointed to find out that it picks up like 15 yearss down the road. We only get to her tid bits about the characters from the first four books.. I miss them already.
