Book Description

Oct. 12 2010 The Heroes of Olympus (Book 1)

Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea-except that everything seems very wrong.

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, and her vivid nightmares reveal that he's in terrible danger. Now her boyfriend doesn't recognize her, and when a freak storm and strange creatures attack during a school field trip, she, Jason, and Leo are whisked away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood. What is going on?

Leo has a way with tools. His new cabin at Camp Half-Blood is filled with them. Seriously, the place beats Wilderness School hands down, with its weapons training, monsters, and fine-looking girls. What's troubling is the curse everyone keeps talking about, and that a camper's gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist they are all-including Leo-related to a god.

Rick Riordan, the best-selling author of the Percy Jackson series, pumps up the action and suspense in The Lost Hero, the first book in The Heroes of Olympus series. Fans of demi-gods, prophesies, and quests will be left breathless--and panting for Book Two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Fun, Fast Paced Adventure Oct. 28 2011
By Coreena
The Lost Hero introduced some fun new characters, namely Jason, a Roman transplant to Camp Half-Blood who can't remember anything from his past; Piper, whose father has been kidnapped and to save him, she must betray her friends; and Leo who has a way with tools and fire (Leo was by far my son's favourite because of his quirky humour).

The mystery surrounding Jason was really fun. I love the Roman elements and having them play off of the Greek elements of the book. There were also some great twists and turns that kept me and my son on the edge of our seats. The book is also full of action - fighting, adventures, dragons, evil monsters, and inuendo of even worse things to come...

The story is told from all three characters points of view. Each character took turns for 2 chapters at a time. This was good because it really allowed us to get into the heads of the different characters. I also think this widens the appeal to both boys and girls because there are more chances of relating to a character.

If you've read the Percy Jackson series, you will enjoy revisiting Camp Half-Blood and some of the characters from that series. I love the set up of how the new characters will eventually intermingle with the original characters, but at the same time, this is a whole new adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Percy Jackson fans Oct. 16 2010
This book is the start of the Heroes of Olympus series which follow the Percy Jackson series.

Jason wakes up on the way to a school field trip with no memory of his past. Meanwhile, Percy has been missing from Camp Half-Blood for the past three days. Are the two events connected and if so, how and why?

At the end of the Percy Jackson series, Rachel (the new oracle) makes a prophecy that is the main focus of this new excellent series by Rick Riordan. I can't wait until Fall 2011 for part 2!!!

Rick Riordian has done it once again! Once I picked up this book I could not put it down. I read it everywhere I went. I just needed to read it cover to cover. I lost track of time as my imagination was powering through the adventures of Jason, Leo, and Piper. The end is mind blowing. I hope you all enjoy the book and continue on to the rest of the series. Fantastic read

5.0 out of 5 stars Favourite series for my 9 yr old boy June 28 2013
By K. Bell
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My son says "I would recommend it to kids who like mythology". This is the first one in the series and the first two (2nd one is Sone of Neptune) you don't have to read in order, but the last two are better read in order (Mark of Athena and tbd House of Hades). What my son likes is: "It kept me interested and never got boring. I especially liked the plot - it kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next, it didn't give anything away at the beginning of the book".

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Hero- Riordan is fantastic! April 11 2012
By Lisa M
My son and I both loved the first book in Rick Riordan's new series The Heroes of Olympus. It was even funnier and cooler than the first series with Percy which was already quite entertaining. Rick Riordan is amazing, we love his writing style!
