About the Author
Mridula Baljekar is a highly regarded Indian chef and cookery writer. Born and raised in North Eastern India, Mridula began cooking in the family kitchen with her mother and grandmother, later learning about more complex traditional Indian cookery with her family’s resident professional chef.
After many years training and building her experience, Mridula is now one of the UK’s best known Indian cooks. She is the star of Carlton Food Network’s Indian cookery series which was filmed partly in the UK and partly ‘on the road’ in hotels and cafes throughout India – an experience which Mridula enjoyed immensely and hopes to repeat soon!
Mridula is also in demand as a cookery consultant for major food companies including Tesco where she helped shape their range of curries and Indian dishes. Her creative work with Tesco led to her being described as ""the cook who spiced up a superstore""! Her innovative approach to recipe writing has ensured the success of her several successful Indian cookery titles including the best selling ‘Complete Indian Cookbook’. Her unique style shows most clearly though, in the menus of her Gold award winning Indian restaurant, The Spice Route, in Windsor, UK, where traditional Indian flavours are presented with brilliant new twists in dishes that include Vennison Tikka and Turkey and Guinea Fowl Kebabs.
