Book Description

May 15 2009
The Lycian Way, Turkey's first long-distance walk, celebrates its 10th birthday in 2009. This 500km coastal trail has risen from obscurity to international acclaim, featured in "Time" magazine and selected by the BBC as one of the world's 30 best walks. As the route matures, the walker profile is changing from dedicated backpacker to supported trekker, active holidaymaker and enthusiast for archeology and local culture. The route remains stunningly beautiful, snaking over the steep coastal cliffs, dipping to isolated beaches, climbing through cedar forest. This is the 2009, 3rd edition of the official route guide. The book contains detailed route and historical site descriptions, altitude profiles and a large detachable map. Route updates, downloadable GPS files, accommodation and transport information and links to firms providing holidays on the Lycian Way are all on the website.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lycian Way Dec 9 2009
In October (after purchasing this book in September), my daughter and I spent ten days spread over three pensions in various locations along the Lycian Way in SW Turkey. This book was absolutely invaluable - very well organized, with lots of very useful detail that helped us to make our way around quite easily (including making informed trail choices based on safety, time available, changes in elevation, much more) on our hiking days without having been there before - essential reference! Keep in mind that this book is about the trails - you still need other reference material on non-trail things to see, places to stay (if not your tent), travel distances and methods, food issues, and so on.

Very well detailed itinerary of the trek, with every day walking ascent/descent graph and number of kilometers.
Said everything you can see on the way (lots of romans/greeks ruins among others), with lots of interesting explanations & historic facts.
A detachable map at the end of the book is also really good.
What else? oh yeah lots of nice shots to make you cannot wait to get there!
Remote and beautiful beaches, couple of mountains, meet locals and experience a bit of their lifestyle: Looks like this trek allow you to see real Turkey, not the touristic one if you know what I mean...
Furthermore a website with forum administered by Kate: contains all sorts of informations; to check out even before bying the book to have an idea of what/how is the trek.
Enjoy !

NB: sorry if a few mistakes, am not a native english speaker :p
