It's already said in the title: magical and powerful!, Aug 31 2001
This review is from: The Magic and Power of Lavender: The Secret of the Blue Flower, It's Fragrance and Practical Application in Health Care and Cosmetics (Paperback)
The book is a great way to begin using essential oils. And Maggie Tisserand and Monika Jüneman are the perfect teachers. True, there are alot of other books out there on aromatherapy but none that are as simply and personally written as this one.
Lavender is one of the most versatile and helpful of all the essential oils and Maggie is one of the best aromatherapists around. Using lavender has saved me many a doctor's bill and much worry when my little ones were ill. Bathing them often in lavender baths kept their little bodies cooled without breaking the fevers, which would have made their illnesses last longer. Within 24 hours, the child was back on his feet like before. Talk about magic and power! On vacations lavender has saved us from sleepless nights, bee bite allergies, fevers, colds, sore throats, bronchitis... even hangovers. I have bought several copies of this lovely book for gifts for new moms. I myself read Maggie's other book, Aromatherapy for Women prior to my second pregnancy and that is when I began using aromatherapy in baths, which I continue even now, for I have found it to be the absolute best form of preventive medicine around.
The book talks about the history of lavender and how it has been cultivated and used since antiquity. There are great ideas of using it therapeutically today to enhance strength and wellbeing in everyday life, as well as practical hints on growing, drying and blending lavender with other oils to make synergestic blends. Toward the end, the chapter entitled odds and ends gives yet other original ideas for using lavender.
I love this book. Maggie and Monika share their experiences with the reader, which makes you feel like they are right there encouraging you. Thanks Maggie and Monika for a truly essential and agreable read!

Much better books available, May 25 1999

The information is sketchy and factually incorrect in some places, and the book would appear not to have been proof-read - for example the botanical names are mis-spelled in several different ways. There are much better books on the subject available.
