Book Description

March 3 2011

Give meals "The Main" makeover.

The Main, with chef Anthony Sedlak, is one of the Food Network's most stylish programs. In this handsome book, Sedlak divulges the best recipes from the show so that everyone can re-create his signature dishes at home. Elegant and appetizing, yet simple enough for the everyday gourmet, Sedlak's creations are mouthwatering.

The Main meals feature complementary groups of dishes built around one main ingredient. Ingredients take on new characteristics when appearing in different dishes. When the pomegranate is featured, for example, Sedlak creates a pomegranate grilled lamb and pairs it with a pomegranate salad and quinoa pilaf. Offering recipes that range from comfort food to gourmet fare, The Main bridges the gap between the simple and the sumptuous with dishes like:

  • Wine-marinated flank steak
  • Olive oil poached tuna
  • Beer-battered cod
  • Grilled lobster with chorizo
  • Prosciutto-wrapped halibut
  • Chicken and fig ciabatta
  • Maple soy glazed salmon
  • Almond hummus with ground lamb
  • Jerk pork tenderloin
  • Ginger poached prawns.

With his expertise and informal style, Anthony Sedlak shows how easy it is to be an at-home gourmet chef.

I found The Main clear and easy to read as a recipe book with excellent illustrations. Menu items were varied and ingredients readily availble. Great as a cook book or table book. Well written and informative.

4.0 out of 5 stars My best looking cook book May 2 2010
The layout and photography in this book are second to none. Very professional, nice to just browse through!

I've tried a few of the recipes and like most of them. It is the easiest Index to work through.

I recommend adding this one to your cookbook collection.

First off I love the show, I am completely hooked on the Food Network. When I ordered this book I wanted to open my husband and I's tastebuds so to speak and try out things that my mom didn't teach me growing up. The only down side to this book is some of the ingredients, you really have to search for some of this stuff if you do find it. I like in Canada and sometimes the grocery stores do not have some of the specialty items you need to make the recipe exactly how it should be done.
Over all though, not a bad choice - if you want to try something new, give this book a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite 2009 cookbook May 10 2009
This is my favorite cookbook purchased in 2009. Recipes are easy and quick to follow, call for everyday ingredients, and are delicious! If you're looking to sweeten up your chicken, try something different with Quinoa or heighten the flavor of your steak - you'll love these mains, and the many others in this cookbooks. You and your kids will not be disappointed.
