The Book I've Been Waiting for Since OHMSS was First Released in 1969, April 20 2010
This review is from: The Making of on Her Majesty's Secret Service (Paperback)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service has been my favourite Bond film ever since I first saw it at the Princess Theatre in Niagara Falls, Ontario back in January 1970. Through the years I've read everything I could on the movie and it's star George Lazenby. Every time I watched a new Bond film I looked for references to this film and of course with the Internet read every article I could find on OHMSS. Charles Helfenstein has done the ultimate job of collecting all this information and combined it with interviews, photographs, his personal collection, obscure magazines, movie memorabilia and much, much more to produce a book which is the OHMSS fans ultimate source to all things Piz Gloria. Obscure findings that make the book super interesting for the fans are pieces of information like: George Lazenby punching out Oliver Reed; Lazenby's fling with Barbra Streisand; the new 007's kidney issue; the whole garlic incident with Diana Rigg publicised way after the fact; running out of time so that a whole subplot involving postal trains and corpses is scrapped; a picture of Lazenby's parents going to a premiere in Australia; and other fascinating tidbits and pix that four decades of digging uncovered. I have been waiting 40 years for such a book and read it from cover to cover in just a few days. I think what was ultimately satisfying was that there was somebody out there who was a bigger fan than me and was willing to put in the time and effort to produce such a book and then to share all his research and findings with the public. Thank you Mr Helfenstein you have done a great service to the James Bond community, and if there is a special award from the Ian Fleming Foundation for publications and research you deserve a gold medal!

On Her Majesty's Detailed Secret Service, Jun 23 2010
This review is from: The Making of on Her Majesty's Secret Service (Paperback)
Easily the most detailed book about any 007 adventure ever. This book doesn't only cover the film, but also covers all the information pre-novel and novel and ends with the current 007 actors conducting screen tests using scenes from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The images are breath taking and as you flip through the pages you will be continuously astonished with the amount of rare photos and attention to detail. I thought I knew my fair share of Bond knowledge from over the years of being a fan but this book is chalked full of tidbits that continued to educate me. Get this book now! It is worth every penny and will no doubt become a collectors item in the very near future. Do not miss out!

The best Bond book ever, Jun 6 2010
This review is from: The Making of on Her Majesty's Secret Service (Paperback)
Where can you go wrong? If only there were similar books on the other movies, they would make the ultimate Bond series collection. Very well written, informative but not boring, brought to light many things that the average 007 books ignores or has no clue about. Honest interviews with those who were there & not speculation. Amazing illustrations not the standard stuff you see in so many Bond books. Been a fan of this movie since a I saw the first show after the Royal Premier in England, always been my favourite film & book. If your into Bond you can't wrong & if you have a passing interest in the series or this one off adventure you can't wrong. Buy it you won't regret it.
