Creative, and good for value, if only the pictures were bigger ( should have listened to all the other reviewers) worth the money would like to see it in coffee table size.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mammoth Book of New Erotic Photography - Maxim Jakubowski (Running Press), Dec 7 2010
By BlogOnBooks "BlogOnBooks" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Mammoth Book Of New Erotic Photography (Paperback)
Maxim Jakubowski has a tough job. Nearly every five years he is faced with the daunting task of combing through thousands of photographs of naked women to find the ones distinctive enough to make the cut in books like this third volume of his "Mammoth Book of New Erotic Photography." (Can you detect our sarcasm?)

Featuring a humongous list of famed international photographers, Jakubowski has sought to showcase the work of photographers whose work cannot be described merely as sexy or sensual, but rather, stylish, artful and in many cases, edgy. Beyond the mini-portfolios of about 75 photographers, there are descriptive introductions to each lensman's (and several lenswomen's) work.

Getting into the heads of each photographer is part of Jakubowski's mission and for those wishing to use these pages as an introduction to more of the photographer's portfolio, each section has a weblink for digging deeper into the vault.

While the concept of a large international compendium of this photography is certainly a worthy tool, the small size format (especially given the word `mammoth' in the title) of the pages only begs the question of just how impressive this work would be in a larger format. In a word... very.

4.0 out of 5 stars Considering it's limitations, it's a great book, Feb 24 2011

**BOOK IN GENERAL**
This book is a small sampling of photographers work. The reason this book is doomed to fall short of doing justice to the artists featured is it's scope of content and restrictive dimensions. The book is a little over 5"x7" in size and 447 pages. This means the largest picture is restricted to 5x7 portraits, many though are smaller perspective pictures in landscape and portrait. In 437 pages, first 10 pages are admin, the author puts forth 73 photographers. This means you get roughly 6-8 pages of a photographer's work. Out of this, you get around 6 to 10 images to view. It's clear this book is overly crowded. A book like this is hard-pressed to put forth a representative selection of an artist's body of work under these conditions. Consider that I have a book of Nobuyoshi Araki's photography in a 12"x8" book with well over 500 pages. With only showing one artist's work with so many pages, you still leave feeling that you only got a small sampling of his photography. Now imagine instead that there are 73 artists instead of one. You feel like you only got a nibble, not a meal. To be fair, Araki has had a long career, and for what this book provides for the excellent price, it's a great starting point to gain exposure to artists and a wide variation of the theme; "Erotic Photography." What helps is the first page of a each photographer being showcased gives their name, a couple of words about them and names of books and/or websites when applicable. You will have to follow up on the photographer through other means if you like what they have done.

**TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY**
I won't say that I feel any artist's photography is good or bad. Just remember that the keyword in the book's title is erotic. Pictures range from snapshots, photo shopped, bondage, girl on girl, studio, location, color, b/w, well thought out and choreographed, thought provoking and intimate among other styles. There are 73 photographers, so don't expect a specific sub-genre of eroticism. I felt I got much more than the price of the book for the variety of styles presented. The common theme in this book is a of showing women in various states of undress in various ways. You will enjoy some more than others with this variety.

**PATICULARS**
In a book with so few images per photographer, there should be no repetition in what amounts to very abbreviated portfolios in this book. For the most part you get a great sampling of photographers and their work. There is the occasion in which the photographers work is only represented by a series of shots rather than a sampling of their overall work. Examples of this can be seen with Pierre Dal Corso, who does excellent retouching but you get to see nothing else of him. Valeria Iazareva has over 50% of her shots from one series.

**CONCLUSION**
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I think you will enjoy it and the price is a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mammoth Book of New Erotic Photography, small but full of goodness, Dec 15 2010
By Photo fan - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Mammoth Book Of New Erotic Photography (Paperback)
This book is small but the quality of printing is top notch and it is rather under valued.

You'll see a variety of erotic, nude, fashion meet erotica and fetish photography works in one place.

The sample works of 75 different photographers are being shown in this book including the photographs made by Eric Kroll, Peter Gorman, Dave Naz, Vanda Spengler, Luis Durante, Wolf189, Rebecca Tillett, Michele Serchuk, Christine Kessler and many more.

I could easily imagine it in a larger format.
