2.0 out of 5 stars Cool Premise - Poor Execution, Mar 24 2011

Through a series of collected materials: e-mails; Tweets; video; newscasts; memorandum; and journals, the story of civilization's collapse is pieced together. The catalyst for the dead walking is creative and unique, as is, the method of delivering the story. However, it is tough to read given the formats (some of which are tedious) and is missing the action which makes the genre so popular. So kudos for cleverness but ultimately it does not hang together and the end plot-twist falls flat.

2.0 out of 5 stars a real pain to read, Feb 5 2011

Over all the story line is a good one, but they way it was presented ie: hand witten segments, personel journals, and such made the book more annoying to read than enjoyable. I usually enjoy zombie books , but I doubt I will ever finish this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blows chunks, Dec 28 2010
By James Ware "crabby geezer" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Mammoth Book Of Zombie Apocalypse! (Paperback)
Dreadful. Are they publishing just any old crap that gets sent in now? This book was far below the high standards of other novels in the genre. It can't stand beside Brook's "World War Z", Paffenroth's "Dying to Live" or Bourne's "Day by Day Armageddon". Any of them would be a MUCH better choice.

Horror doesn't mean horrible. Just because a novel has zombies in it does not mean that it has to be wretched. Demand more. Keep looking. This ain't it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Deceptive little 15 dollar piece of trash, Jun 4 2011
By DS-11B - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Mammoth Book Of Zombie Apocalypse! (Paperback)
Please don't let the one star mislead you. If possible I would give it no stars. Not only was the story and subsequent ending garbage, I noticed about halfway through that there were inconsistencies between sections of the book. Small ones but I was confused how an author could botch his own storyline. Well, other than the most stupid ending I have ever read in a zombie novel, the thing that really set me off was when I happened to flip to the back page of the book for no apparent reason. You know those "zombie anthologies" that no one buys because they are terrible reads? All this book is, a cleverly disguised (or deceptively) anthology. Yes, this is not a NOVEL, it is an anthology. Albeit they are all writing on the same event, it is several authors. Although I would never buy one, I believe I would rather read one of the anthology books containing short stories than this lie trying to pass itself off as a novel. The direction of the story is constantly flipping, pulling you back and forth and you never know whats going on based on the mood of where the plot is at. Don't be fooled, I don't mean it keeps you on your toes, it is literally confusing. One chapter something good happens, the next humanity is not looking like its going to make it. And THEN to top it all off, after you have invested the necessary time into reading nearly 500 pages of confusion, it ends in a cutesy little joke that I am sure all however many of the writers who wrote this thing had a laugh about. The most frustrating part was that there were so many points where if it had been an actual honest to God novel, an interesting and unique twist on the zombie genre could have developed. Did it? Nope, that was so and so authors last contribution to the collection. Bottom line, there are a LOT of hanging story lines at the end. Do yourself a favor and save your money. The marketing team was real clever on this one and do a good job painting it as a longer and U.K. based spin off of WWZ but it is not. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
