Qiu Xiaolong's books are Always a joy to read Nov. 25 2014

Qiu Xiaolong's books are Always a joy to read. This one seems to have a slow start and at first I wondered if I had read it before. But then it takes off and gives a very interesting historic view, along side a feel of Shanghai today. I enjoy the same long historic and literary perspective as in classic Chinese literature. I will continue to be a fan of Inspector Chen!
Can Inspector Chen PLEASE get laid? March 19 2014

Dear Qiu Xialong, this is my sixth Inspector Chen in a row and he is still resisting the advances of every beautiful woman who propositions him. I want Detective Yu & his gorgeous smart wife to get their new apartment, and I want Chen to fall for someone, URGENTLY. Enough with the restraint already! Very informative about Chinese history, especially the Mao period.
Inspector Chen unfulfilled Sept. 26 2012

This is the second Inspector Chen case that I read. I did enjoy, once again, the author's ability to create context, the ability to provide a good storyline and all round historic handling of the subject. This time however I felt that the solving of the case came as a last unraveling, a bit quick, and could have benefitted from weaving it more into the story at an earlier phase. However, thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to read the rest of the books of Xiaolong, especially the Inspector Chen books.
