Meditator's workbook,

Excellent book. Flickstein combines his extensive knowledge of psychology with his deep Buddhist wisdom. Many practical concepts are offered, and many useful exercises are available at the end of each chapter.

Extremely disappointing,

This review is from: The Meditator's Workbook: A Journey to the Center (Paperback)
I found this book to be very disappointing, especially since I absolutely loved this author's other book, "The Meditator's Atlas." (Which I highly recommend.)The meditations talked about here are the same type of pop-psychology meditations that one finds in many other books. The "visualize yourself in a room talking with someone who's hurt you" type of thing. This book recommends using Buddhist meditation to achieve your goals: Financial goals, career goals, etc. which seems to me to be the exact opposite of what Buddhism is about. Perhaps this is a good book on meditation, but it's not a book about Buddhist meditation, except for the fact that it uses some techniques originally rooted it Buddhism. |
