5.0 out of 5 stars The best daily cartoon strip of this decade May 8 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mighty Alice: A Cul de Sac Collection"
Written & Illustrated by Richard Thompson
(Andrew McMeel Books, 2012)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The ecstatic joy of having a new "Cul de Sac" collection come out is only slightly tempered by the sad news that the strip's creator, the brilliant cartoonist Richard Thompson, has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. How and if this will affect his work is unknown, but I think I speak for many fans when I say our thoughts and prayers are with him. (BTW - not to be daunted, Thompson has rounded up many of his fellow artists to create the comicbook jam, Team Cul de Sac: Cartoonists Draw the Line at Parkinson's, a benefit fundraiser for the Michael J. Fox foundation, due out in June, 2012.)

Anyway, back to the new book. This is the third collection of the Cul de Sac cartoon strip, a hilarious, multi-layered, witty cartoon centered on the four-year old Alice Otterloop, an odd little girl who has a lot in common with Calvin, Dennis and Little Lulu. If you like intelligent, kooky cartoons (particularly classics such as "Calvin & Hobbes" and "Peanuts") then this book is for you. My kid and I read them together and quote some of the gags to each other for weeks afterwards... Like, look out for the Uh-Oh Baby!! Pick this book up and you won't be disappointed. I promise. 5.0 out of 5 stars One of the all time greats May 8 2012
By Andy Shuping - Published on Amazon.com

Cul-De-Sac is one of those all too rare comics that has something for everyone to enjoy. From Petey's quest to be the world's number one picky eater and his exploding backpack to Alice's quest to take over the world and to make it snow by flushing ice cubes down the toilet, you can't help but laugh at every strip in this comic. Thompson captures the world so effortlessly with his drawings and writings that you feel like you need to buy a copy for all of your friends. It's easy to see why Bill Watterson (yes the guy that created Calvin and Hobbes) praises this strip. If you can't find something that you enjoy about this collection please check your pulse to make sure you aren't really a zombie in disguise....and even then you should still enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful as always! May 14 2012

Cul de Sac is without a doubt the best comic strip being published today. I loved the first 3 collections and this one is no exception! One of my favorite things with Cul de Sac is going back and re-reading and finding all the little details I missed the first time. I particularly enjoyed the Easter egg on page 118. One strange thing about this volume: it appeared to end mid-plot. I've never read a comic strip collection that ended on a cliffhanger before! I suppose that just makes me want the next volume even more! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living With the Otterloops May 21 2012
By tvtv3 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
THE MIGHTY ALICE is the most recent book collection of the comic strip "Cul de Sac." For those unfamiliar with the strip, "Cul de Sac" revolves around four-year-old Alice Otterloop and her eccentric family. The strip isn't the typical joke-of-the-day strip and is instead reminiscent of some of the great comic strips of the past such as "Calvin and Hobbes" and "Peanuts." The strips in this collection ran in papers from Monday, October 5, 2009 through Sunday, July 18, 2010. Some of the longer stories in this collection include a long Halloween story about Alice wanting to be a box of Blamo's for Halloween; Alice's fear of going to visit her grandma because of her giant dog Big Shirley; Alice wanting to get a big, ugly fountain for Christmas; Alice's brother Petey trying to decide on a gift to get his pseudo-girlfriend Viola D'More; Petey getting sick; and the last day of school. Highly recommended not only for fans of "Cul de Sac," but for anyone who likes great comic strips.
