Book Description

Dec 28 2010
As a working mom who looks hotter than ever after two pregnancies, Alison Sweeney knows what it takes to look and feel great during pregnancy and how to get back in shape post-baby. (Yes, it’s possible!) In The Mommy Diet, she shares tons of straightforward tips, personal anecdotes, easy-to-follow exercises, fashion insight, nutrition advice, and even a few of her favorite quick, easy recipes.

The Mommy Diet helps moms-to-be stay fit, positive, and pampered during pregnancy and then steers new moms to a healthy recovery and body confidence after the baby is born. It’s a warm, accessible, funny guide to everything from prepregnancy through the first nine months postpartum—an especially crucial time for new moms who want to shed their baby weight safely and establish a fitness routine—and beyond.

Sweeney, who is busy taking care of two children and juggling two jobs, breaks pregnancy down trimester by trimester, addressing everything from morning sickness and food cravings to sexy maternity style, all the while reminding readers to keep up with exercise as long as their doctors approve. After the baby arrives, she details the perils and pitfalls of carrying around postpregnancy weight and how to navigate the sleep deprivation, not to mention the shell-shocked stress of all the changes to daily life.

You can eat healthfully, be physically fit, look great, and find time to take care of yourself while you learn to be a terrific new mom. The realistic, affordable, and doable advice in The Mommy Diet will show you how.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Earth-Shattering But Great to Have All in One Place Mar 26 2011
By CrimsonGirl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I didn't realize when I borrowed this book from my local library that the focus was on pregnancy and the post-partum months. My youngest is 2 so I'm not really the target audience for this book. I ended up skimming most of it for that reason. There wasn't that much new to me as a mom of 3, but I appreciated how it was all in one place. It would've been super-helpful had I had this book available to me during my first pregnancy.

Allison Sweeney's tone is down-to-earth and sympathetic. She may be a Hollywood star, but comes across like a big sister or girlfriend who has BTDT. I really liked the recipes and the fashion tips, even if many of the latter aren't applicable to me at the moment as I'm neither pregnant nor breastfeeding. It was entertaining to read the sections behind-the-scenes at "Days of Our Lives" as I used to be a huge fan of the show in high school and college.

I would recommend this book to pregnant and newly post-partum moms, especially first-timers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't what I expected. April 19 2012

It is more focused on Pre pregnancy and pregnancy health as opposed to post pregnancy. I though it being called the Mommy Diet it was based on after having kids. Either way it is a good read. Good tips and well written.

3.0 out of 5 stars great for first timers Jan 20 2011

I was super excited to get this...I have 3 kids, so losing baby weight after pregnancy is not new to me. I was hoping for more after pregnancy tips and ideas, but it was really for first time moms. It still has really great ideas on exercise and making the right food choices.
