The Nanny may be many things, but subtle isn't one of them. Nanny Fine's whine and wardrobe are as loud as the laugh track, but her heart's in the right place in actor/producer Fran Drescher’s fish-out-of-water sitcom. In her third season, the "flashy girl from Flushing" continues to add pizazz to the staid Manhattan world of the Sheffields, while her mother, Sylvia (Renée Taylor), keeps up the pressure for her to marry a rich man. Granted, Fran’s debonair employer, Maxwell (Charles Shaughnessy), fits the bill--and the two do share a mutual attraction--except Fran has her sights set on a Jewish doctor rather than a Broadway producer. If she met her match too soon, the show wouldn’t have lasted six seasons. Instead, Fran falls for a con artist, a mobster, and New York Ranger Mike LaVoe. Romance aside, she bumbles into numerous (mis)adventures throughout this 27-episode collection, like a stint on Jeopardy (featuring Alex Trebek), an appearance on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (with Jane Seymour), an afternoon with Elizabeth Taylor, and a day in court, during which her senile Uncle Manny (Milton Berle) represents her.

Unlike many '90s comedies, The Nanny held onto the same cast, and year three comes compete with wisecracks from Max's assistant, C.C. (Lauren Lane), his kids (Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, and Madeline Zima), Fran’s Yetta (Ann Guilbert), and Niles the Butler (Daniel Davis, a Yank with a spot-on English accent). Though extras aren't part of the package, this three-disc set includes the trippy animated special "Oy to the World" featuring talking dogs and lovesick clouds. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

At last! At this rate, they won't issue the last season of the series till 2046. And I'll be the 85 year old geezer in a tent in front of the Microdot Implant Video Store ready to get my copy inserted.

One of the funniest sitcoms ever, albeit admittedly non-politically-correct at the expense of the Jewish people. However, the show was equally rough on WASPs, the British, the wealthy and their sycophants, the famous, the elderly, the New York theatre community, drag queens, well you name it really.

Apparently, the delay in releasing additional seasons of the show is due to all the releases needed from the dozens of cameo and guest stars who appeared, in virtually every episode. It really helped if you were around in the 70s, as the show referred to that decade repeatedly, and tapped heavily from it for those unusual guest stars, often whom we hadn't seen since the 70s.

Mostly though, the show was simply, reliably FUNNY, each episode a frenzied barrage of slapstick, word play and vaudevilian gags. Daniel Davis as Niles the butler and his trick eyebrow alone, are worth the purchase price.

I've been waiting much too long for this next season to be released. After waiting more than a few months, I had to watch the whole thing online or risk going crazy. But I will be buying this when it's released in March.

While generally intended for mature audiences ( some so called "parental adivse is actually in my opinion an abdication of rules) I find this series of comedies one of the funniest, soley for the fact that Fran Dresscher is fabulously hilarious and gorgeous on screen. Looking forward to having the whole collection!
