I have tended to shy away from 'The New American Commentary' series simply because of its title. As of late though I have gotten beyond my sensitivities and have enjoyed the few volumes I have thus far collected. For straight-forward no nonsense exegesis there are few commentary series that can match the NAC. Mathews' two volumes on Genesis are no different. Mathews takes the Genesis record very seriously as Scripture--not merely an Ancient Near Eastern document of interest. Yet this fact does NOT mean that his study is any less rigorous than other more secularly minded studies claim to be. This volume will definitely be a great resource for personal study, teaching and preaching opportunities for years to come.
