5.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Point of View with Good Recipes Jan. 8 2013

I first saw this book when I attended a class given by Sandra Gutierrez. She is a charming and lively teacher and her Southern-Latino cooking is innovative but based on good understanding of both cultures as well as sound cooking techniques and a practical approach to food. All of this is clearly reflected in her well-written book. I purchased this copy as a gift for a couple - one Southerner and one Latina - who are both interested in cooking. I'm sure they will enjoy using it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat idea for fusion cuisine. Dec 22 2012

I live in the South and I love Latin American food as well as deep Southern classics. This book attempts to blend the two in some interesting ways. Not all of this is that appealing, but much of it is.

To top it off, she even looks kinda like a Latina Paula Deen(I actually despise Paula Deen).

If you want to explore the notion Southern-Latino fusion cuisine, this book will make a useful resource when looking for ideas.

These mouthwatering recipes concoct a harmonious fusion of two beloved cuisines. An excellent addition to every cookbook collection, one that could very well make you the most popular hostess in town.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Jan. 28 2014

Not really what I expected, but definitely an interesting cook book. I will use to help me modernize some of the dishes. I really dont use much butter, cheeses, and other things listed in the book - I should have known that and knew that but I still wanted to give it a try. My family are from Guatemala and it was definitely a useful tool to understand a different culture and cuisine. Still like it but dont like the excessive of some ingredients. This will help me to make my own verisons of some dishes
