"America's favorite writer" (The New Yorker) begins an all-new trilogy-inspired by the inn she owns and the town she loves.
The historic hotel in BoonsBoro, Maryland, has endured war and peace, changing hands, even rumored hauntings. Now it's getting a major facelift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect of the family, Beckett's social life consists mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there's another project he's got his eye on: the girl he's been waiting to kiss since he was fifteen...

Must like Nora Roberts!,

This review is from: The Next Always: Book One of the Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy (Paperback)
This is a book for Nora Roberts fans of which there are millions. I am one of them, although I have my favourites and others I likely will never read again. The Next Always fits into the second category. It is the first of a trilogy, of course. Did Nora Roberts invent that form of marketing? She certainly plumbs it regularly. The main male characters of the series are three brothers, naturally, and there is no secret their love interests are three best friends (BFFs.) Standard stuff. The three men are all regular, blue collar kind of guys, the sort of 21st century heros I imagine we are supposed to find familiar. As a 20th century reader with a taste for the more romantic hero I found them a little crass but they are all tall, lean but muscular, with protection of the innocent and their womenfolk firmly imprinted in their DNA.Their trash talk tends to be more scatological and profane than previous NR heros. Lots of brotherly banter regaining their private parts and sex lives goes on while they wield their skill saws and hammers. Actually I found them a little boring and their fascination with action figures and video games would likely keep them out of my fantasy bedroom but the theme "boys and their toys, gotta love 'em" runs through this book and likely will continue through the series. There is a ghost which is fun, and a marvelous old inn where the guest bedrooms are named after romantic couples from literature (one is the Eve and Roarke Room, a little private advertising from Nora Roberts/J.D.Robb.) I still don't know who Wenzell and Buttercup are but I suspect that is a cultural gap and my own fault. I was impressed with the detail in the book about construction and renovation. I had to go online to find out what a coffered ceiling is. Either NR has recently reno'd a home or she did a fair amount of research before she wrote this book. I will likely buy and read the other two in the series which is the whole point, of course, but if I never manage to do so I won't have lost much, I imagine.

The Next Always: Book One of the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy,
This review is from: The Next Always: Book One of the Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy (Paperback)
Another trilogy so famous by Nora. It always makes you want to continue reading the next segment, but as all you readers know, we will have to wait until May 2012. I like the fact that she instills a darker side to the book when she introduces a character that you sometimes forget about until later in the book he/she comes to play in adding some action/excitement. In this case harassment is a factor. Also her books have been dealing with the supernatural which again introduces another element to the storyline. In my opinion, you are either a fan of romance mixed with thriller or not.

This book is typically Nora Roberts. She is one of my favorite authors and I will always read books she has written. The storyline is very well written and I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Please read this book.
