"Toss up between Quirky and Brilliant, you be the judge", July 26 2009
This review is from: The Night of the Following Day (Widescreen) (DVD)
Universal Pictures presents "THE NIGHT OF THE FOLLOWING DAY" (19 February 1969) (94 mins/Color) (Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- Marlon Brando is the leader of a gang of ruthless kidnappers --- Some intense scenes and conversations between his co-stars Richard Boone (Leer) and Jess Hahn (Wally) that he wants out of the kidnapping --- Boone is an out of control psycho that will stop at nothing to fill his desires of doing harm to the girl Pamela Franklin they've kidnapped --- Rita Moreno is Wally's sister who has a bad drug habit and is Brando's love interest --- But many of the scenes are Hahn's as he gives the performance of down on his luck wanting this to be the last job person --- This overlooked film has some classic moments, but also does nothing to keep this a Brando and Boone gem.

Looking fit and trim Brando gives an emotionally charged performance, Richard Boone as a sadistic and fiendish killer Jess Hahn as hard-luck and pitiful Wally, Rita Moreno as drug-addicted sister of Wally and Brando's girl-friend is pure acting on the cuff --- Must mention Pamela Franklin as the victim who is kidnapped turns in a truly abusive role --- But don't be fooled, as some of this film drags a bit, but gets going again with a raw and brutal finish --- The Night of the Following Day is a toss up between quirky and brilliant, you be the judge.

This movie is a great movie and Marlon Brando excels in it., Sep 10 2006
This review is from: The Night of the Following Day (Widescreen) (DVD)
He plays the role of a criminal who gains money in kidnapping rich people. He and his 3 companions kidnap the teenager daughter of a millionaire in order to extort money from him. They keep her in captivity in an isolated house, located on a beach in the north of France(Le touquet). As film progresses Marlon Brando learn to know the three companions. He finds out that any of them is capable of leading favourably the kidnapping. He begins to be scared because if they fail and get caught, they face the death penalty(don't forget that the film was made in 1968 and it's so hard to believe but the abolition of death penalty in France dates only of 1981!). Indeed things doesn't happen as it should be, all turn badly. The movie is well filmed, the screenplay is perfect, and the actors are all good. Moreover the end which is so unpredictable made me love this movie. In fact suddendly we face the teenager's fantasy. Her father is so rich and protective that she invents stories for herself. This movie must absolutely be seen!Oh I forgot...did I tell you that I love Marlon Brando in blond and that I'm an unconditional fan?

I couldn't stop watching this. Brando's other dark film, July 9 2004
This review is from: The Night of the Following Day (Widescreen) (DVD)
I rented this after I found out about Brando's death.
This was one of the only movies I've yet to see of him.
I have never been so mesmerized in years from watching a film!
I can't wait to buy this on DVD.
The only bummer is the weird ending-which is an ok ending if you're stoned! The film is dark and Kubrickian but Brando and the sadistic kidnaper make this film work!
This is a must see.
