5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book Mar 13 2011
By cc
Format:Paperback
Thanks to this book my daughter is on a great routine, and finally a great sleeper! Many people told me that I should let her cry it out or that naps didn't effect night time sleeping, this book teaches techniques to help with nap time and they work!
As a baby my daughter never slept well, maybe a 40 minute nap if I was lucky and hard to put to sleep at night and she would wake up screaming throughout the night. I read this book and as soon as I started putting her down for naps as recommended she started to sleep well, if she missed her late afternoon nap she was up in the night!
This book really changed my views on nap times and finally the whole household is getting the sleep they need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of options, Lots of ideas Jan 5 2012

I appreciate Pantley's gentle approach to dealing with children--this rings true with me and lines up with my instincts as a parent.
And I also understand and acknowledge that this book is designed as an aid to help YOU find the solution that is right for YOU and YOUR CHILD.

The book offers numerous suggestions for the problems parents are facing, without making you feel bad for your parenting choices.
Co-sleep? Nurse your baby to sleep? Let your baby fall asleep in your arms? She offers advice for all of these situations without resorting to telling you to leave your crying baby in the crib and close the door.
Have a baby that naps in the car? Have a child that you think is transitioning out of naptime? Going on vacation and want tips for how to solve time-zone changes and jet lag? It's covered in this book.

The author also brings to light WHY you may be having the problems you are.
Some reasons and suggestions may seem "common sense" to other reviewers, but may be new information for others, particularly new parents.

What I like about this book is it's breadth--she covers so many possible nap problems, she's bound to address the issue you are having.
And she offers a variety of solutions, so you have options as a parent. Try a few of the suggestions out and do what works for you and your family.

One section I particularly like is the one on "Hush Hour." My daughter is 3 1/2 and is currently transitioning out of naps. Some days she has them, and some days she doesn't; some days she is cheerful and agreeable and other days--not so much. The Hush Hour is great alternative (and sometimes precursor to) naptime, and gives both of us what we need--some much needed downtime.

If you're looking for options; if you're looking to avoid crying; if you're looking for something that you can cater to your family's wants and needs, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more swinging the car seat around for me! Jan 12 2009
Format:Paperback
Hi,
I found this book really helpful. It goes into a lot of detail about the sleep disorders in little ones, explaining why this is happening to your baby and helping you through the fog of exhaustion that prevents a mom from exploring solutions. There's obviously some repetition from her previous books but it's still worth the money because it goes through the sleeping issues and solutions in more detail. It's easy to read, comforting, compassionate and easy to reference when you need to find a solution to a particular problem. Keep it handy as your child changes his / her nap habits as I found myself going back to it a few times for advice on a new stage of development.
