A lot has happened in the world of digital design since the first edition of this title was published, but one thing remains true: There is an ever-growing number of people attempting to design pages with no formal training. This book is the one place they can turn to find quick, non-intimidating, excellent design help from trusted design instructor Robin Williams. This revised classic--now in full color--includes a new section on the hot topic of Color itself. In The Non-Designer's Design Book, 3rd Editio n, Robin turns her attention to the basic principles that govern good design. Readers who follow her clearly explained concepts will produce more sophisticated and professional pages immediately. Humor-infused, jargon-free prose interspersed with design exercises, quizzes, and illustrations make learning a snap--which is just what audiences have come to expect from this best-selling author.

I learned all the basics and I keep going back to this book once in a while for tips and reminders when I have posters or documents to design. A great introduction to design.
Easy and fun to read, lots of great examples and exercises.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great content, bad cover Jan 7 2013

I haven't read through the entire book page by page, but the before/after examples I've used and the overall concept of "contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity" offer non-designers useful tools. I also like the book, "white space is not your enemy." Between the two books, there's a lot of helpful instruction and advice enabling the reader to come close to being a really good designer without having a design background or spending oodles of time and money on courses.

The one thing I don't quite get is the cover of the third edition published in 2008. The modelled green background and the little flower symbol look like they were leftover from the 1990s. In this case, don't judge a book by it's cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!! Nov 23 2012

Fabulous book, easy to read, lots of diagrams and simple instructions which are easy to follow. It does not go into enough details, but then again it is not professing to be a web-designers book, it is geared more to a home-based business for simple creation of web-sites.
