3.0 out of 5 stars Not Necessarily a Devotion, but Fun Aug 13 2010
By Christin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2 by Nancy S. Hill is a neat addition to our library.

While I wouldn't necessarily consider it a "devotion", it is a fun study tool for children to learn about history and science facts, along with some other miscellaneous trivia.

Each devotion has a verse which accompanies it. This is a good start, but I think the parents will need to go into a bit more depth to help children understand the verses and how they actually relate to the bits & pieces of history or science being shared.

I see this as a good supplement to a devotional practice...as something "fun & quirky", but not to replace a child's true devotion time. Again, I don't think "devotion" is the right word for this book, but overall, it's a fun read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2 Feb 7 2010
By C. Miley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
What bird uses a spear to catch its dinner?
What miniature toy did almost every boy wish for in the 1950's?
Why did people put Bubble Wrap on their walls?

Not sure what these answers are? Well, I wasn't either until I began using The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2, written by Nancy S. Hill, during devotion time with my boys. Following the same format as the One Year Bible, The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2 has a kid friendly devotion for every day of the year. Each day has its own page and begins with an interesting trivia question. In addition to explaining the answer to the question, Bible verses and applications/devotions are included.

This book is geared to children ages 6 - 10. I think the topics and devotions are very well targeted for that age range. I am reading these daily devotions with my two youngest boys, ages 6 and 9. They have been very interested and engaged in trying to `figure out the answer' to the trivia question before I can read it to them. But, more importantly, the Biblical lessons are sticking in ways that I would not have predicted. I'm sure this book would work great for girls, but the entries are very boy-friendly as well. Even my 13 year old has shown interest in reading the entries on his own.

I like this book - a lot. I plan to continue using it with my children throughout the year. By the way, the answers to the initial questions are woodpecker finch, electric toy train set, and some thought it was a modern looking wallpaper that would be easy to clean. Pretty neat, huh?

4.0 out of 5 stars New Twist on Kid's Devotions Feb 1 2010
By M. Carswell - Published on Amazon.com

Why do you get thirsty?
Why is it easier to walk than stand still?
How does a sponge hold so much water with all those holes?
What's the largest living thing on earth?
Why do we blink?

Any question that a child may have, will probably be in the Did You Know Devotions 2? written by Nancy S. Hill. It's a fun book that can be read at any point, without having to rely on the the previous days reading to make sense.

Each day has a new question, with the answer. Then it goes further. It draws in a verse, that was written under the title, and shows how the trivia presented can tie in to a child's spiritual life. As is written on the Tyndale site:

Kids ages 6-10 love trivia, and this devotional is chock-full of interesting and sometimes silly facts. Each fact is explained briefly; the theme of the fact is then used to share a biblical truth as well as a Bible verse. The Bible message and verses tie directly to the theme of the facts, providing a better opportunity for kids to remember and apply the biblical message. What car was the first car Henry Ford built? Why do we say o'clock? Which American candy was named after someone's daughter? Find the answers to these questions and learn a biblical lesson by reading The One Year Did You Know Devotions 2.

For families that have not yet begun the family tradition of daily devotions or for those that have, but are looking for something new, this Devotional book is a great addition to any family library.
