Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

A godmother's final "gift" transforms what should be the luckiest princess and most comely of all (born seventh, a good omen) into an ordinary-looking girl. But that does not stop Princess Amy from living an extraordinary life: she runs away from home when she is promised to a royal stranger. Ages 8-up.

Book Description

Unlike her six beautiful sisters, Princess Amy has mousy brown hair and freckles, and she would rather embark on an enchanting adventure in the forest than marry a prince. By the author of Shadow of the Moon. Reprint.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enchanting fairy tale, Dec 11 2004
This review is from: The Ordinary Princess (Paperback)
I just discovered this book at a second hand store the other day, and I found it absolutely delightful! No matter how much one loves traditional fairytales, all of those princesses who are as beautiful as the day get just a trifle exasperating. In this book, an infant princess is saved from the blessing (curse?) of peerless beauty by a water fairy who bestows on her the gift of ordinariness.
Apart from the storyline, the book is also very well and amusingly written; it made me laugh as I haven't laughed since I last read P.G. Wodehouse. I would definitely recommend this story for anyone who loves fairytales that end happily ever after.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's wrong with ordinary?, July 7 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ordinary Princess (Paperback)
This book was a wonderful book by M.M. Kaye! It focuses on Amy, or the Ordinary Princess who was "blessed" with the gift to be ordinary. Surprisingly, Amy enjoys this, compared to her six other beautiful sisters. Watching them grow up, get married to boring, run-of-the-mill princes Amy is unintrested in such thing. Since she is so ordinary, no one will marry her! She decides to run away after over-hearing a plot to get her married that involved a dragon. She then lives a life in the forest, disguissed in ordinary clothes. She soon gets a job at the palace and meets a remarkable young "man of all work" which makes for a sweet fairy-tale ending.
This book was well-written but the ending was a little too obvious. The names are wonderful, and I think M. M. Kaye did a wonderful job! The illustrations in this book were beautiful, especially the color ones. I would recommened this book for people who love fairy tales, adventure, and being ordinary, because what's wrong with ordinary! ^_^ It's a quick and easy read and meant for younger kids but teens and adults will probably enjoy it if they haven't read it yet!

This review is from: The Ordinary Princess (Paperback)
One of the loveliest fairytales I have ever read to my children. I loved this story, which in our current times of celebrity and money worship is a wonderful reminder of what real happiness means.
