Book Description

Dec 28 2010 A Presidential Agent Novel (Book 6)
The #1 New York Times-bestselling series returns-and the stakes have never been higher.

Charlie Castillo's secret unit has been disbanded-but that doesn't mean he's out of business. As experience has painfully shown him, there are many things the intelligence community can't do, won't do, or doesn't do well, and he has the men and assets to help set things straight.

But the first opportunity, when it comes, is shocking: A FedEx package arrives, bearing photos of barrels containing some of the most dangerous biohazard materials on earth, all of which were supposed to have been destroyed during a raid on a secret Russian factory in the Congo. Who has them, and what do they want? Castillo has a feeling he's not going to like the answers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Firts minor diappointment in series. Aug 31 2011
Format:Hardcover
I really like the Castillo series although, as stated previously, this series could, with minor adjustments be the natural continuation of the Colonel Frade saga in Argentina and am surprised that this has not been noted by others. I suspect that Colonel Frade and company have a date with destiny in the evntual Peron Era of Argentina and thus would complicate the Presidential series. Since the release of "Victory and Honor" however there is a sense that somehow The Frades of Argentina and the Castillos/von und zu Gossinger wil share some destiny/history in the forthcomming volumes.
The disappointment alluded to in the title is because the format. Committee writing processes have taken over some brilliant individual authors and reduced their output as pure drivel (Tom Clancy is a prime example) The Presidential Agent series is now a Committee project and it shows. Unfortunately.
A lot of useless and unnecessary repitition get in the way of an exciting story line which has millions of us hooked. What is not to like about someone who is filthy rich and able to do the comic book hero routine on a daily basis?
I will continue to subscribe and have the books delivered upon publication dates. Opening the box and settling in to a new griffin Novel is always an unplanned vacation of the mind. A great place to get lost and no one did it better than Mr. Butterworth III.
The arrival of Butterworth Junior on the writing team has not improved the writing however. The plot has less depth, conclusions easily anticipated and the characters have taken on a slimmer dimension. Gone is the heat. Replaced with a sense of daily routine/domestic bliss amongst the protagonists.
There is a perswonal sense of bewilderment as to the final result in this Chapter of the special Presidential team. When you are operated from the top it is a quick and final fall if you stumble. We recognise that. However, if you are working for the number one man in the world, have his protection and your results are very beneficial to your countrymen, then why do you have to be a sacrfificial lamb. That I do not understand, perhaps one has to be an American to do so. Other than the foregoing, pick up a copy, settle in for a good read. A word of caution however; if this is your first copy of the Presidential series, don't read it. Try to get to the first books of the series which will get you into the characters at a far greater depth than the last edition will provide. The very first "By Order of the President" is a great read and the hook to get you to subscribe to the series. It must not be missed. After thatmy friends, you are on your own. Enjoy.
Take this as my personal guarantee, it took a lot of pain out of an economy flight from Toronto to Frankfurt this spring and that is reason a plenty for buying a copy from the Butterworth Storyteller family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another WEB Hit! Feb 28 2011
Format:Hardcover
Well done again WEB G! Lt. Col Castillo and his band of 'Outlaws' have returned from 'falling off the face of the earth" as instructed by their commander in chief, the late POTUS. Back again to foil a plot that runs all over the globe. Great read for all you Castillo fans...not sure what WEB can do to continue the story line much further...but will be interesting to see.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not W.E.B. Griffin quality Jan 4 2011
By Lathrop Bob - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just have to say wow! I wish who ever wrote this book had taken the time to read the other books in the series and not just cliff notes. I knew right away that I was in for a long read on this one. I bought the audio book. Other than a few minutes of stage setting at the start, it took over 2 hours to get past the initial "here is what happened in the other books of the series". I am used to Griffin books screwing up small details like names or titles. The first screw up was referring to what had been Madsen machineguns in the original books to a Kalashnikov in this one. Then the writer changes the past history of Billy Kochen and Castillo, and Gen. Naylor and Castillo's Mother. Come on, that is not good writing.

If this is the quality of Griffin's boy then the boy needs a real job. The quality of the Griffin line has been declining since Butterworth IV started writing. This book brings in a new low. Any more like it and that will be the end of me reading Griffin books. I have all of the Griffin books from all of his series in paper and audio form. I would rather see no more from him if the quality of the writing is going to be so poor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time - Nothing new - Not worthy to be read Jan 5 2011
By J-Man - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed the first few books in The Presidential Agent series by W.E.B. Griffin, but The Outlaws was a true disappointment. The 432-page book should have been a 120-page short story. This is not worth your time. Wait another one or two years until the next installment. Hopefully Griffin will then produce a worthy follow-up story.

The good: The plot was enjoyable.

The bad: Too many pages for very little content. The backstory was repeated for way too many pages. The content from this book was repeated numerous times throughout the novel. Very little action. Very little politics.

Also, for $14.99, this is not worth the money. What happened to $9.99 Kindle editions? How can the Kindle, read electronic and therefore no production cost of printing & shipping, be more expensive than the hard cover? Shameful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Continued Disappointment Dec 28 2010
By W. West - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The latest in the Presidential Agent series continues the downward spiral that has been the last several installments. The author has continued to "tweak" (read: outright change for no discernible reason) the once interesting and unique backstory that he had created for Charley. First it was Eric Kocian magically becoming much more involved with young Karl's life in the last several books. Now, the author has completely ret-conned Charley's transfer to working with McNabb originally, as well as making Naylor out to be first, an ass, and later (actually in flashback) an idiot.

Apparently in the two weeks that separate "Black Ops" and "the Outlaws," the President has died, and the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security have resigned ... Busy two weeks, en? That type of Cabinet level exodus should raise some big questions for the country, but that was not to be ... At least not yet. Needless twists and turns, friends becoming enemies, and enemies becoming friends.... In a more talented author's hands, perhaps, but I'm not sure who is actually writing this series anymore.

If you're a fan of 'ole Charley, then i recommend if for no other reason to see how much of his life has changed, both present and past.
