Product Description

From Library Journal

A regional business almanac that provides a one-stop overview of the economic life of an area is an interesting concept; however, this reference falls short of reaching this goal. Approximately two-thirds of the work is divided into broad sections dealing with subjects such as marketing, trade, finance, ecology, information, and infrastructure. One is reminded of USA Today in terms of depth of reporting, brevity of articles, and plethora of facts. There are quotes, magazine article reprints, some longer surveys (six to eight pages), and a few Oriental proverbs mixed together presumably to enable a reader to discern the direction of the Pacific Rim economy. The last third of the book features appendixes that provide a brief statistical review of the countries covered and a directory of major businesses, trade organizations, and research centers. Much of this material is covered in other, better reference sources, e.g., World Economic and Business Review (LJ 2/1/91). While this is an interesting book to browse through, it's too scattershot to be recommended as a reference work, and its title does not lend itself to wide use in the circulating collection. A strictly optional purchase.
